Additionally, I will have Wii system, VCR, 5 cpeaker and power sub system as well as CDR changer. Please advise on the best way to set this system up, please speak (write) slowly and with detail like you are talking to and idiot!

I'm a newbie attempting to set this upgrade of equipment up myself

No offense but start with the example diagrams that come with the equipment.

If your receiver can convert all the analog video feeds to HDMI, you should be able to attach everything to the receiver and pass one HDMI cable to the TV.

D* STB and Blu-Ray - HDMI to receiver
VCR - composite and analog audio to receiver
Wii - not sure what connection options they have
CD Change - analog audio to receiver (unless is has a digital output)

Connect TV via HDMI from receiver to TV. You may need to make some additional connections between the two if the receiver can't convert analog feeds to output over HDMI.
Sub will connect with RCA cable
Speakers with standard speaker wire.
