Hey everyone been trolling the boards a while trying to find the best setup that will stay in my budget. Thinking about getting the pioneer 1019ah for my receiver and then getting the energy take classic 5.1 system. If later on i wanted to change the system to 7.1 could i add two tower speakers from another company like def tech for my front lt and rt? thanks in advance.

Yeah, you won't have much of a problem going with another brand if you get the right price. Just try to make sure the tweeters and woofers are made with the same materials if going with another brand.

Surround speakers put out a very small amount of audio compared to the fronts so they are not that important. Just don't say, for example mix a speaker that has Kevlar woofers and titanium dome tweeters with one that has Paper woofers and cloth horn tweeters.

my only suggestion is to buy the "front 3" from the same manufactures and within the same series of speakers. Surrounds do not need to match, as mentioned in the previous post, unless you expect to get into multi-channel music.
