I have been doing my research through AVS forum and the internet and have come to the conclusion that I want a Onkyo receiver and polk audio in wall speakers for my HT in my basement. I am looking for some good recommendations as to what a good quality Onkyo reciever model would be a good one. Also would it be best to go with a 5.1 or 7.1? Also, looking for a good model of polk audio speakers for my basement as well. These speakers would be installed in wall before the drywall. My HT area is about 13' by 15'. Any suggestions or recommendations would be great.

One warning about the Onkyo receivers - if you use their room correction system you will have limited headroom. The volume will not go higher than +3. This is something to do with the limitation of the processor and possibility of introduction a distortion.

I have had a client who really liked to watch his movies with a loud sound, and he was very disapointed that on some movies he could not turn the volume higher than +3.

Thanks for the info. What receiver would you recommend for someone who wants to watch movies at a loud volume as well as sporting events and gaming?

I am a big fan of the separates, but of course it is more expensive. I would look into the Denon receivers if you are on the budget.

FYI: The Onkyo model that my customer got was TX-SR876.

which denon would you recommend? Also, what type of speakers would you recommend?

It depends on your budget and power requirements.

You can get more info here: http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/AVReceivers.asp

Speakers are very personal. I recommend listening to as many as you can. There are great inwall speakers from Atlanric Technology, Monitor Audio, Triad, etc...

My favorite ones are from James Loudspeaker: www.jamesloudspeaker.com

would you recommend pol audio rc80i speakers?

I cannot recommend something that I have not heard. I have heard Polk audio free standing speakers, but not inwalls. The ones that I listened to were nice, but if you want really, and I mean really nice sounding in-wall speakers, then there are only several manufacturers make the ones that sound as good if not better than freestanding speakers:

James Loudspeaker (my favorite)
Joseph Audio
Triad Platinum

Thanks.

My room dimension from wall to seating is 12.5'. and the hieghth is 89". Do you think it is wise to put a projector from the wall in this area or is the length from seating to the wall too short?

Also was looking at 55" LED TV.

You can easily put 110" diagonal screen w/front projection system and enjoy a "real" Home Theater experience.

Again, depends on your budget,

My preferences:

Projectors: JVS RS10 or 20 or Anthem LT300 or LT500 (same as JVC), and I would also check a new one that will shortly be coming from InFocus.

Screens: Stewart, Screen Innovations. If you di not have full light control check out the SI black diamond screens.
