View Full Version : So is Killzone 2's multiplayer still going strong?
PvtChurch 08-25-09, 12:04 AM I'm thinking of picking up Killzone 2 so I'll have a good online shooter to play but I'm not sure if it will hook me. Does it have the staying power of a game like CoD4 or is it a game I'll play online for a month or so and then leave by the wayside? And how's the community? One of the things that quickly turned me off of CoD4 was it's community of frat boys, 10 year olds, and elitist "go back to single player noob" *******s.
benjamin-benjami 08-25-09, 12:05 AM get 1943 instead.. 15 dollars and well worth it..
pcweber111 08-25-09, 12:08 AM There's douchebags in every fps game. I haven't played one yet that didn't have them in abundance. Welcome to reality.

I've played 1943. It's a fun diversion but I don't really see it having staying power. I like diversity in my game types to. I'd get pretty sick of the capture point style gameplay pretty quick.

Some are worse than others. The PC Team Fortress 2 community is generally well mannered whereas Halo and CoD4 seem to be the epitome of douchebaggery.
KingShorty 08-25-09, 12:13 AM I haven't been online on KZ2 in a while. The game started out being really fun mainly because we had a strong community playing the game. Now, that community has dwindled into playing BF1943, Madden 10, some have gone back to playing LBP, Far Cry 2, amongst other games.
What I thought was a good idea with the proximity chat, I really ended up hating. It caused so many problems amongst "friends" and there is just so much vitriol and abuse on it that it's almost best to mute the entire opposition.

It is funny how many people are still playing C.O.D. 4 modern warfare. almost 2 yrs later.
PvtChurch 08-25-09, 01:36 AM Alright I suppose I'll hold out on Killzone 2. I' guess I'll just wait for Uncharted 2.

why? the answer to your question in the thread topic is yes
just played it tonight ... as a matter of fact I've been playing it almost every night (and I was never a big FPS fan)

Well no one's really spoken in favor of it. I'm still willing to listen to opinions of course but it sounds like it's something I'd become disenchanted with in a month or so.

Quite honestly, I'd tell you to hold off. You've got Uncharted 2 coming out in October and then Modern Warfare 2 in November. I'd suggest that you pick up Modern Warfare 2 as you'll be on a level playing field. Picking up Kz2 right now for the online aspect will almost always get you slaughtered as there is a learning curve that goes with it and couple that with the fact that you will be starting from scratch which means you'll be spending a lot of time trying to rank up by going against fully ranked up opponents. I'm not saying that it can't be done, I'm just saying that it could be more frustrating than fun.
frankthetoad 08-25-09, 08:21 AM KZ2 rocks! I played it last night, and make a habit of playing every Tuesday. I think it still has a very large community that plays. I would say you wouldn't be disappointed with your online experience...especially if you knew other people that have it that continue to play.
Being able to get a game with 10+ fellow clanmates up and running continues to be a blast.
BF:1943 sucks...unless they've fixed the mic issues...which I don't believe they have.
TyrantII 08-25-09, 09:41 AM Shorty, don't forget you can search and auto match to servers with your rank or lower. So, you don't always have to go against generals.
The SP was entertaining, but fell really flat, as almost all generic FPS do IMO. I've only seen a few that keep me interested in SP.
MP is great, and if you're buying it and planning on playing it until mid October, I'd say you'd get a good amount of use out of it. Maybe rent it first? The community has it's annoying riff raff, but is a ton better then COD4. No idiot call for headshots every single game, grenade spamming, ect. You'll get a racist every now and then, but the prox chat means you won't always have to hear them.
There's still a good number of us that play Tuesdays nights. Oh, btw KILLZONE2UESDAY!

Yeah true. I was more refering to console fps games. I've had many a good match on TF2 on the PC. It just seems the console fps games have a much higher percentage of idiots to good players.
Krzykrl 08-25-09, 10:29 AM kz2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! tuesday
frankthetoad 08-25-09, 10:31 AM ^ur ded 2 mgd
Krzykrl 08-25-09, 10:32 AM ^MAG tonight?? :study:
I played for a few minutes the other day, I forgot how much I hated the MP in this game until I played it again. Not my style.

It's mostly because admins can kick annoying people off their servers in TF2.
PvtChurch 08-25-09, 11:41 AM Well none of my buddies have PS3's so it would be difficult to play with people I know. Maybe I'll Goozex it and give it a chance for awhile. I suppose it probably won't matter by the time Uncharted comes out anyway. I foresee that game eating up a lot of my free time.
Krzykrl 08-25-09, 11:55 AM This game was soo hyped, and a lot of people picked it up who don't play anymore; i'm sure you can find a deal locally via craigs or something.
I like the multiplayer of this game still.
p.s. Kingshorty sux at this game

Now, I probably suck real bad at the game. When the game initially launched up until BF1943 came out, you'd rarely find another player that ended up with more points or kills than me at the end of a game.

That's why you stopped playing. You went from owning to getting owned. http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon_study.png
Shorty come back! Tonight we can get a good group hopefully.
TyrantII 08-25-09, 01:30 PM I'll prob be on till 10est, then it's time to bust some ghosts.

The KZ2 community is much more fun to play with than the COD series. I literally played about 3 hrs of COD:WaW and within that time the trash talk was 10 times worst than KZ2.... and yes, there are still people playing, me included.:)
If you like futeristic FPS then you'll like KZ2. The graphics and map design are incredible! The continous movement from one type of objective to the next type of objective works very well and is a blast. I am actually thinking about not bothering with COD:MW2 and just keep playing KZ2...
I stopped playing after I maxed out my classes. I need to constantly get XP or else I get bored. I felt that the KZ2 community was better than the COD4 community, though.
I am just now (after months of play) starting to wane in my interest for KZ2. I loved it and have been playing it since May. I still think it's one of the best online shooters I've played.
I like to progress in games and I have ranked up to a point where I'm up against career kz players and can't really compete.
I have no friends who play the game and I managed to play this for months. Usually I only end up playing a game for this long because I have friends playing it.
So I recommend it, highly. You could do worse thats for sure.

Slightly true. I started getting owned because I started losing interest in the game. It wasn't just me either, the Zulu crew just really got bored playing the game.
What I thought was a good idea with the proximity chat, I really ended up hating. It caused so many problems amongst "friends" and there is just so much vitriol and abuse on it that it's almost best to mute the entire opposition.
maybe I was just absent for all of this "abuse", but I only remember one incident.
proxy chat is awesome, and I always miss it when playing games that don't have it.
KZ2 still rocks.
cooper1010 08-25-09, 07:51 PM my wife and kid went to water wizz today and i played all day! they just got home and i had to quick turn it off and pretend like i was cleaning.
i thought my interest was waining, too. but i guess not. i don't get to play with my invisible internet friends much, cuz of my work schedule, which would make it that much better, but it still is a blast. if you get it, add me; i'll school you son! (whoops, you hate that, don't you?)
confidenceman 08-25-09, 08:08 PM What I think everyone is trying to say is:
Killzone 2 is excellent if you can play with a crew of people from your friends list or in a clan.
I burned myself out going for those multiplayer trophies too quickly. I feel like I played it non-stop for a week. It's a great multiplayer game. Really. If your issue is with the random ****nuts, don't play with random ****nuts. They're in every FPS game. Honestly, I'd choose a mediocre multiplayer game that people on my friends list are playing over an excellent game that no one is playing.
KingShorty 08-25-09, 09:56 PM Looks like I might have to get back into it. Apparently TheHud hosts are entering a competition on the 25th of September.

Killzone is excellent no matter who you play with.;) As long as you stay out of the XP whore servers (Body Count only), the team work seems to materialize even though your playing with someone you don't know.

Grenade and rocket fests...which there's nothing wrong with as long as those lobs have consequences...
Krzykrl 08-26-09, 09:20 AM rockets FTW!!!
SharpOne 08-26-09, 10:57 AM IMO, the game is waaaay better than CoD4. I love the graphic style, the maps and the game modes. I played through singleplayer when I first got it and didn't give the multiplayer much of a chance. But once you get into it and start ranking up and figuring out how to play the classes, I think the game opens up quite a bit.
Having said that, it does take a bit of getting used to with the controls, but easily adjusted to with a bit of time.
If unsure you could always get a used copy or rent or GFly it.
