View Full Version : Dualshock 3 Silicone Cover
Does anyone know where I can find nice silicone covers for my PS3 controllers? I bought a few about 6 months ago (black, blue & pink) that are Sony brand. Two of them came from Target and the other from Walmart, like $10 each. I was shopping around yesterday on my lunch break and it seems that either no one carries them anymore or Sony doesn't produce them anymore. I checked Target, Walmart, Best Buy and Gamestop. The only ones I could find were either RE or SF themed (looked cheap). Looking online at Amazon and those stores' websites, they don't even have the nice Sony ones listed anymore.
I love having them b/c they keep the controller looking brand new and they feel nice (not sweaty) in your hands. They also fit perfectly. Anybody know where I can find more of these, or possibly another brand that are equal in quality?

dogdoctor 08-25-09, 02:42 PM Does anyone know where I can find nice silicone covers for my PS3 controllers?I ran into the same issue in May. After much searching not wanting to deal with EBAY...I found this Playstation 3 Jelli Grips (http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-3-Jeli-Grips/dp/B000XZX4WS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1251225653&sr=1-2). They are really comfortable and have the smooth feeling without sweat buildup. As for "Sony" (http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-3-Plug-Play-Kit-Sony/dp/B001N0H202/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1251225631&sr=1-3) products...your really going to have to hunt for them.

Doesn't make any sense to me. Why would Sony stop offering this product? The Wii and 360 both offer tons of these silicone cases...so does every cellphone and iPhone. The only color I can seem to find is another pink one...

The only color I can seem to find is another pink one...Yeah it makes no sense...but it was like they just stopped making them. I remember in early days when PS3 came out you could walk into target and get any color and number you wanted. Back in may I went into all the stores and was shocked I couldn't find a single one. That is when I went online and realized the issue. There weren't anymore and now you either have to ebay a Sony one someone kept, but didn't open or look at 3rd party alternatives. I went with the Jelli Grips and I have been very pleased.
EDIT:
1. You can still charge the controller in the glove in the controller stands that are built likethis (http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Energizer-Power-Charging-System-3/dp/B001H4NMNA/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1251226895&sr=1-4).
2. You cannot use the pro-triggers with them. They get stuck in the glove opening for the trigger.

Well, hopefully they'll start making them again. I'm sure they'd sell plenty of them with the price drop, PS3 slim and holiday season on the way.
I've got that Energizer charger and I have zero problem putting the controllers on it with the silicone gloves. Never tried the pro triggers.
I would assume lack of demand. I find covers ugly, cumbersome, and uncomfortable and the only reason I have one for my iTouch is because I knew and I'ld drop it pretty often.

I guess I'm the opposite. If the silicone cover fits correctly, I think it gives the controller some nice added weight, feels softer and less sweaty in my hand, and protects it if it's dropped. Also keeps it looking brand new. The Sony covers fit so well and had every button/light exposed, so they looked pretty sweet. I took the cover off my MGS4 Gunmetal controller last night for the first time (been on there about 8 or 9 months) and it looked like it just came out of the box!
I'm not a big fan of the game or sport themed covers. Just really want to find more of the ones made by Sony! Any color but pink will do!

It's really a nice smooth texture and for me it cut down on the sweat blisters 100%. I can tell you that there are cut outs for all the sony lights too. It also doesn't 100% encompass the controller. It leaves the bottom middle third exposed, but your hand barely touch it there to begin with.

I had a white Sony branded one on my white DS3 I got for xmas. My daughter chewed on the end and tore the left side off. I was JUST about to go get another one. Lame.

Well, that kills it for me. I find those indispensable.
I tried one of them a while back and I didn't like it at all. However, it wasn't Sony branded, so maybe that was the problem. If they really do reduce sweatiness, I wouldn't have minded having one for Mirror's Edge. For some reason, my hands sweat when playing that game - only that game, which is weird.
Found them!

I apologize if it's poor form to post links to these sellers. I just want to help out those of you who have also had trouble finding these things!
*edit - After shipping costs, newegg is about $5 cheaper than Walmart. I ordered an orange one for my new DS3...got black, blue, pink and orange now!
Conspiracy* 08-26-09, 05:43 PM Good Find. I'll have to find a way to justify buying some. lol
SirDrexl 08-26-09, 05:59 PM I don't think those are Sony branded though, if that's important.
steven975 08-26-09, 07:18 PM I've never seen Sony branded ones, but the ones linked are good ones. They fit very well; I have 3 of them.
They're exactly the same. The ones that come in the Sony packaging have the same cover as these. I got 2 of them from Target and I have one of these from Walmart and there's no difference in them that I can see and I've had them for about 6 months. These with the 10' usb cable are about 5 bucks more though.
steven975 08-26-09, 10:58 PM the ones I got from Target were quite convincing in looking like they were Sony branded, but they were not.
The packaging looks Sony-ish, but it isn't Sony.

Correct. But they are still identical, whether Sony brand or not.
