My TV has developed a thin black line about 6 inches from the top of the screen, and some black dots between the line and the very top of the screen (almost like dead pixels). It is not the vertical shadow as posted in the other threads, and there are no white dots anywhere on the screen. My date of manufacture was March of 07, we probably got it in May of 07. Anyone else had this experience? Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Looks like bad DMD chip ($240) difficult to install and may not fix. Or something in the optical block ($800) easy install and will fix for sure.
Hammer, Your responses are always so helpful and right on. But Sammys don't have optical blocks. Light Engine? But if it's the light engine and no extended warranty, not worth it.

Thought most of the light engine problems began as a vertical line, not horizontal....We went on holiday, and when we got back, it was on there...The Tv was not even used for a week.
As he said, it could be the dmd board, but it's never a certainty. And the lines can be vertical or horizontal when it starts to fail. So replacing the light engine is a cure all, but not worth the cost. So I guess you can try the dmd chip and all the work that goes with it, or get another tv.
Check out the thread about replacing the dmd chip, tho on another model, the procedure would be similar:
