Samsung Hl-T5087s - around a year old, maybe 18 months.

Been great, and super bright, what I'd consider to be as bright as my plasma... just crazy bright for a DLP. About two weeks ago, I noticed it just didn't seem as bright and crisp but then blew it off to the source (satellite). Well last week, still dim, so I grabbed the remote and went through the settings to see if the Picture mode got messed with, nope, it's where it should be.

Sunday, noticed while I was watching a movie (Incredible Hulk), I noticed the colors were ever so slightly fluctuating.

Today, first time it's done it. Whole screen darkens a smidge, then a few seconds later, darkens a smidge more, then darkens a third time, finally going completely out. After a few seconds, it comes back on to the first 'stage' and starts all over again. Hasn't stopped doing it for an hour, it's not sporadic, it's repetitive and consistent.

Any thoughts? Obviously, I'll call someone tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone here had ideas.

How many hours a day is the Tv used?

If you are near 5000hrs (+-1000hrs), the lamp needs to be replaced.

okay thanks. i wasn't sure considering it was a continual sporadic thing, my first thought was cabling, so i tested all of that.

how much does a lamp cost? I'm sure i'm wrong but I didn't think of that because I thought the LED DLPs didn't use a lamp per say......

Ah you are correct, that is an LED model. In that case, you should get a diagnosis. Make sure you can demonstrate the problem when they come out.
