View Full Version : Need to get TV broadcast signal to a remote room

I have a room in my house far, far away from any video source. I put a TV in that room with a Radio Shack "rabbit ear" antenna. The over the air digital signal fades in and out. The rabbit ear antenne just isn't pulling in enough of the broadcast signal. I have an antenna in the attic - 2 floors up. I can't run any sort of cable/wiring to the downstairs room. I'm hoping there is something I can put in the attic that will boost the signal from the antenna so the rabbit ear antenne on the TV can get better reception. I do have a home wifi network in the house and could use that - if devices were available. Or, is there anyway I can use the home electrical wiring to get a signal from the attic (where there is an electrical outlet) to the TV (where the is also an electircal outlet)? I actually need to get the over the air signal to this TV so the person in this room can change channels without using a remote device. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance - Dave

Did you try an amplified antenna for that room?

Yes, I did and that still didn't get a strong enough signal - channels kept fading in and out.

If your channels are "fading in and out" you must be receiving analog repeater or low-power CA stations. Full power analog stations disappeared almost three months ago.

If there are digital stations in your area have you tried a Coupon Eligible Converter Box with a VHF/UHF antenna? There may be digital stations on both bands. With digital signals you either get good reception or no reception at all.

Go to antennaweb.org and input your street address and zip code for local station information. See the street level map that will simplify antenna orientation.

Are you talking about OTA analog channels or do you have an ATSC tuner or digital convertor box?

Sorry for the confusion. When I said "fade in and out", what I really meant was you either see the channel or the screen goes blue. Sometimes you see alittle frozen pixelization - just before the TV screen goes completely blue (and then sometime the TV displays a message that the signal has been lost). The TV has a digital tuner. I'm just trying to get a stronger OTA digital signal to this TV. I tried an amplified "rabbir ear" antenna - didn't help much. I have a huge antenna in the attic which gets OTA digital signals great. Either I need to get a better OTA receiver at the TV or somehow get that great signal from the atenna in the attic to this remote room. Again (and unfortunately) I can't run cable into this room. I was hoping maybe there is some devide that I can plug the attic antenna into (in the attic) and this device would re-broadcast a much stronger signal from the attic and thus allow the rabbit-ear antenna to pick up that stronger signal. Or is there anyway I can take that signal in the attic and get it to this other room by using the home wiring? Again, thanks in advance. Dave

No
You need to cable it in.
