Played over 50 movies so far on my WDTV, using various HD's, flash drives, etc etc. Went to watch an MKV today from a thumb drive and it just sits there "scanning USB drives". I've powered it on an off, unplugged the HDMI, plugged it back in...nothing. Just sits there, scanning. Thumb drive still works in 3 different laptops (which is where I'm watching the movie now).......

What gives?

plug the drive back into your computer, delete the .wdtv folder, plug it back into the WDTV. that usually solves a good deal of issues, though it may take a few additional moments for it to scan the drive as it needs to basically start from scratch.

If you have thousands of files in that thumb drive (docs, wavs, jpegs, etc) the scanning (indexing) will be longer...

The deleting of the .wdtv folder should work. Also, some of the problems with drives related to drives being filled "almost" to capacity where it seemed that WDTV needed a certain percentage of space as "operating overhead" so maybe try deleting a few files?

Last resort would be a reset of course.

And of course, on should use safe removal on a PC to be, well, safe...:D

Nope, just the one movie. 4GB flash drive and the only file is 1.6GB.

Damn, good idea....going to try that right now!
