I plan on building my first HTPC! I just recently found out that I can get a case that the wife will allow. So thanks to the threads on this site I have come to conclusions what I want to start with. I am not a newbie to Linux perse but I still have lots of learning to do.

Background to what I want to accomplish. I want a system that will at least be able to pvr with 2 tunners that can record annaloge cable channles.

Play videos from abc, fox, etc, from there web site. "Prefer HD but can accept less for now"

Surf the web, and basic pc functions.

Thanks to the auther of
Best Linux Mobo for a HTPC "I belive a member of this site"
I have a setup that I am willing to shell out for. I have picked:
Asus M3n78-em - with sound and grafix onbored
AMD Athlon 11x2 240
1td HDD
2 gb of ram
All recomendations from the site listed above.

Now my questions are, What TV tuner card will be best with this set up and linux "prob mythbuntu". Again I would like 2-turner to record 2 show at once or 1 record and 1 to watch tv. I live in the usa and the cable provider is annaloge

And secondly I want it all to be wireless. So what would be the best internal wifi card that plays with linux good.

I am not sure If I can get 2 turners and a wifi card installed within this mobo. I do not want any extra boxes or wires hanging out of the box either.

I was able to do more research and I think I have a good answer to my question above.

The Tuner Card I am going to get is:
Hauppouge PVR-500 - I read that it works great with linux and has 2 annaloge tuner built in.

The Wifi net work card is:
Dlink WDA-2320 - Atheros chipset is supported with the kernel.

What do you guys think?

The PVR-500 is a fine card if all you need is analog recording. It won't record HD. It also doesn't have a QAM tuner for digital cable channels (which usually only the local channels aren't encrypted). Are you sure that's what you need?

For your wireless card, this site may be of use to you if you are using ubuntu.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported

On that site, that D-link card is listed as working out of the box, but having some problems with stability in ubuntu 9.04, but with a small configuration task to make it stable.

I have a 10 year old tv that gets all the channels that I would want to record now. But just for refrence if my cable company were to upgrade to QAM what would be the best PCI or PCIe card with 2 turners and fairly compatable with Ubuntu & Myth TV

That is the same site that I determined that it worked out of the box but to change the driver to offer better stability.

For wifi, dont buy Broadcom chip. There is no good drivers for it now and periodically it hangs my system :(

Atheros chip is much better I think.
