I bought a comcast motorola HD box model DCT3412 on ebay for my parents.
Right now they only have basic cable service and they don't even have a cable box. Just plain old cable from the wall to the TV.
I was wondering if they have to call comcast to get the box to work in their home.
I was thinking that all you need is just hook it up and it should work but i am not sure.
I haven't messed with it yet.

The cable box is most likely stolen and will not be activated by Comcast or any other cable company. You bought a doorstop.
