My wife and I purchased a KDL-32LL150 yesterday. Went by Time Warner for the proper HD cable box. HD signal is installed and plugged (needle nose co-ax out of the wall) into our Explorer 4240HDC cable box where it says "cable in."

I purchased an HDMI cable from them as well. I was told go from "HDMI Out" (from the back of the cable box) to "HDMI In" on the TV set. There are 3 HDMI ports/ two on the back and one on the side. Well, we spent over an hour with the tech guy, on the phone, because we repeatedly were getting "No Signal !" on the screen. The tech guy said he'd make an appointment to send someone over. However, that's not an option because my Mother-In-Law is bedridden in that room with Alzhiemers and only a few family members can go in without her becoming very agitated. She loves TV and wanted a wide screen..and we want her to have it working as best as possible.

After we hung up I had an idea and went from the "cable out" on the back of the cable box to "cable/antenna in" on the back of the TV. Bingo! There's video and sound. It's a 720p, and have access to all the HD channels, On Demand, etc. While I'm pleased with that, I can't help but wonder why the signal comes in Only on "TV" on the menu and not any of the other video options on the Menu: Video 1 / HDMI 1, 2 or 3? Right now I have the cable plugged into the TV as well as the HDMI. Take the HDMI cable out and everything remains the same. Remove the needle nose "cable in" and you have zip.

Is she getting HDTV (720p looks a little better on the HD channels)..but why do I only get a signal through "TV" when I'm told all I need is the HDMI cable?

I know it's a lot to ask, but this is driving me nuts and my Mother-In-Law doesn't want me "messing around!"

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks,

Johnny

If you're using RF from the cable box to the TV, the best you can get is 480i, it's not capable of passing HD. You need to use HDMI or component from the cable box to the TV.

My only guess is either the HDMI is not active on the TWC STB or it's passing some resolution your TV can't accept.

Check the settings on the cable box. You may have to enable HDMI output.
