Is using an A/V receivers auto EQ (YPAO in my case) as important in a 2 channel set-up for CD playback as it is in a 5.1 set-up? I want to hookup my CD player via analog to take advantage of it's DAC's but will lose auto room correction by doing so. Does that matter as much for 2 channel playback? For 5.1 audio I'm using HDMI and will still be using the YPAO settings.

IMHO, it matters even more because, for stereo, you are relying on the room's acoustics to supply the envelopment of ambiance, much more so than for multichannel.

Consider that if you need room EQ for mch (and most of us do), it is the same room regardless of the number of channels playing.
