Does anybody know who makes this TV (panel, electronics, etc)?

It looks like it could be a Samsung, but the model number is very similar to the configuration that LG uses for its plasmas. As a matter of fact, I just saw an LG model LG42PQ10 at a local electronic store chain that is not BB. Also, LG has a 2 year warranty on its plasma panels.

I need a TV for a spare room, but am having trouble trying to decide on a small lcd (32-37") since I have two plasmas already in the house. I thought this might be a possibility since it can be had for an attractive price.

I have been burned before buying a third party TV that went out and then tried to get repaired after company filed for bankruptcy.

I know that the Insignia 32" plasma (which I believe is now discontinued) used an LG plasma panel...so I would say that LG is a good guess for the 42" as well. Of course, that doesn't mean that it's a rebadged LG....they could have sourced the panels and had some 3rd party assemble everything with electronics/casing etc..sourced from elsewhere.

That Insignia would have to be at a very attractive price to even consider it. The 42" Panny X1 is now going for 547 locally. At $300 I might consider an Insignia but not for much more.

gjr,
I recently purchased the Insignia 50" (NS-P501Q-10A). It is a Samsung PN50B430 with a scaled back user menu. The service menu even list it as a PN430. Since my owners manual also covers the NS-P42Q-10A, I suspect that the 42" is also a Samsung.

Locally, what store? My BB ad lists it this week for about $680... Definately interested in how to buy this for $547.
