Hi everyone. I'm currently in the process of purchasing a 42-50 inch HDTV and have likely narrowed my choices down to two TV's: Panasonic 42" TC-P42S1 and the Vizio 42" SV421XVT.

Yes, Plasma vs. LCD. But that's not really my question right now. The Panny was recommended by IronCamel in a thread I created under the LCD forum (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1175260).

I've looked into the TV and from what I've read, it looks like a pretty nice set. The Vizio is $899 and the Panny is on sale right now for $799 (both are within my range). I've read online reviews and both TV's get high marks. The only thing is I haven't really seen a direct comparison between the two.

Couple quick questions: Would the 60hz/600hz subfield drive of the Panny be sufficient in relation to the 120hz/240hz backlight setup from the LCD?

Also, are there any other Plasma's in this range ($800-1,000--give or take a few hundred--and 42-50 inches) that you would recommend over the Panny?

I want 1080p and basically the best bang for your buck.

Thanks, everyone.

Without going into great detail (just browse this forum for a while to educate yourself) I will say that going with the Panny plasma would definitely be my choice. Especially since Vizio is your second option..

Thanks, joemama127. Would you say there is any other Plasma I should be looking at within this range?

I should also note that some of the extras of the Vizio (such as the addition of a PC input and USB to watch videos/view photos) is a nice extra. And I haven't been able to find out if it has Picture-in-Picture which is another nice extra that the Vizio has.

Also, are the HDMI inputs up to spec (1.4 isn't out yet right, but are they the latest 1.3)?

Wanted to edit to add the following question: Should I have any concerns with some talk of unnatural greens? I've read that in some reviews and it's mentioned in this cnet review (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-p50s1/4505-6482_7-33490479.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody).

I should also add that another LCD I was looking at was the LG 42" 42LH55 (cnet review (http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/lg-42lh55/4505-6482_7-33488058.html)) and another Plasma I was looking at was the Insignia 50" NS-P502Q-10A (from Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9299886&type=product&id=1218079754471)).

Just discovered the TC-P42G10 which seems to have a few more features for just a $100 more.

Hmm.

Forget the Vizio.

But I agree, if you have room for a 50", then get the S1. Unless you are the most particular videophile (and if you are/were considering Vizio...you're not) that would be just fine. Even the 50" X1 or comparable Samsung 50" could be had for way under that price (720p though), and would be fine depending on how far you are sitting.

Unless, maybe you just like Vizio...
