View Full Version : Goldmund Eidos Blue Ray CINERAMAX 09-01-09, 08:27 AM http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo290/Aldevio/HE5GoldmundEidosRefBlueU70000-1.jpg JlgLaw 09-01-09, 09:14 AM Gee, typical of Goldmund, another understated piece.:D Jim owl1 09-01-09, 10:07 AM LOL, JLg that's the truth. Simple Swiss watchlike design. ;) Actually, Goldmund has always made good digital on the audio side. Wonder what they have to offer on BD. Anyone know the ticket for this one? JlgLaw 09-01-09, 10:31 AM LOL, JLg that's the truth. Simple Swiss watchlike design. ;) Actually, Goldmund has always made good digital on the audio side. Wonder what they have to offer on BD. Anyone know the ticket for this one? I'm sure this probaby weighs in at 150 lbs. Gotta keep all those digital bits stable and free from vibration.:D Given that, it should be in the $20K range, especially if it accomodates the latest codecs.:p:D Jim CINERAMAX 09-01-09, 10:34 AM To me it has to be fast like an oppo, otherwise it becomes an anchor.;) Art Sonneborn 09-01-09, 10:52 AM Really, what the hell is that thing ? Art JlgLaw 09-01-09, 11:20 AM To me it has to be fast like an oppo, otherwise it becomes an anchor.;) Given the probable weight of the tray and and access door, it probably takes 30-60 seconds just to get the disk into the player.:D I'm sure it would make a good anchor for any boat under 30'.:) (They make some heavy stuff.) Jim MFLUGSTA 09-01-09, 11:39 AM Looks like its trying to be the Rockport Sirius of Blu Ray players. ChrisWiggles 09-01-09, 01:42 PM I wonder who makes it. Chu Gai 09-01-09, 01:49 PM I was thinking the same thing, Chris :D NIN74 09-01-09, 07:33 PM What Pioneer player is that based on? ;) gamelover360 09-02-09, 01:19 AM Will the BR PQ be better with this player than with other BR players? Bland, Bland, The Bland........;):p wolfganglui 09-04-09, 06:36 PM Is there anyone out there who still do not really know what's really inside those Goldmund players? proteus7 09-04-09, 10:43 PM Ummm...it looks real pretty... But in the end, its essentially reading digital bits off a BD disk, and sending them through a digital HDMI connection. Certainly not rocket science. Then again, I'd challenge most people to tell the difference between a "high end" BD player, and a Sony PS3. I certainly couldn't on a Pioneer Kuro 60" plasma. It all just looks beautiful. Steve Bruzonsky 09-05-09, 12:26 PM Is there anyone out there who still do not really know what's really inside those Goldmund players? Only Goldfinger from the James Bond movies. He kept the gold and probably put the Pioneer or maybe Oppo inside the player??? ChrisWiggles 09-05-09, 12:51 PM Ummm...it looks real pretty... There are a couple players that handle chroma resolution better than the PS3. But you 1) need to have test patterns and 2) need to know what you're looking for or you'll never see it. disclosure: I use the PS3 as my primary BD player. NIN74 09-05-09, 03:19 PM Chris, is this something that they can see in blindtest and on film, not test pattern? QQQ 09-05-09, 05:10 PM You guys are not getting it. You not only get a great Blu Ray player, you get the gold plated 1970's car radio built into the front of the stand. ChrisWiggles 09-06-09, 07:20 PM Chris, is this something that they can see in blindtest and on film, not test pattern? Never looked at real content, I assume it's not visible given how invisible chroma is generally anyway particularly such a small effect. IMO of course. My only point was that not all BD players are the same, nor are DVD players. The poster I was responding to seemed to assume that since it's "just pulling bits off the disc." It's not that straightforward. That being said, it isn't horribly difficult to do things right. But given how many years DVD has been around, and how much effort manufacturers expend and capitol they devote to screwing up DVD playback... johnbr 09-06-09, 08:05 PM Have you seen the cost of this monster 135'K. Peter Nielsen 09-06-09, 08:53 PM Have you seen the cost of this monster 135'K. Makes sense. Why charge $13,500 and try to get 100 units sold if you can mastermind it and charge $135k and only sell 10 units. Much less support needed to keep 10 persons happy than to keep 100 persons happy :D QQQ 09-06-09, 09:04 PM Chris, is this something that they can see in blind test? No, you have to have your eyes open to see it. Good news though Nin, if you order it without the car radio option on the front it's only 125K. NIN74 09-06-09, 11:58 PM Never looked at real content, I assume it's not visible given how invisible chroma is generally anyway particularly such a small effect. IMO of course. My only point was that not all BD players are the same, nor are DVD players. The poster I was responding to seemed to assume that since it's "just pulling bits off the disc." It's not that straightforward. Well, I think it is rather meaningless if one cannot see it on normal content. I'ts like the MP3 test I read about that they would listen to the stuff the MP3 codec take away. But that don't say a thing how it sound when you listen to the music. Thanks for your answer :) wolfganglui 09-08-09, 08:00 AM Waking up is unpleasant, you know. You are nice and comfortable in bed. It is irritating to be woken up. That’s the reason the wise guru will not attempt to wake people up. I hope I’m going to be wise here and make no attempt whatsoever to wake you up if you are asleep. It is really none of my business, even though I say to you at times, "Wake up!" My business is to do my thing, to dance my dance. If you profit from it fine; if you don’t, too bad! Anthony De Mello The best post ever on AVS. jmichaelf 09-09-09, 03:17 PM Do they sell a matching record player? DaveUpton 09-09-09, 03:22 PM They will need to include an addendum in the documentation: "Warning - this unit may damage hardwood floors". I understand the need for a reference quality player - but anything in that price range is pure idiocy as far as I am concerned. The limits of human perception vastly diminish any benefit that this unit may offer IMO. I'd love to see one in action - but I doubt it will ultimately be any better than the Oppo - PQ or SQ wise (at least until Stereophile deifies it and it becomes fact). DaveUpton 09-09-09, 03:57 PM I suppose riff-raff aren't supposed to post in this forum by the standards of people like that. JlgLaw 09-09-09, 04:38 PM Do they sell a matching record player? Yes, there is a turntable that matches very well, and it is only $300K (for real). http://www.goldmund.com/products/reference2/ http://blog.stereophile.com/ces2007/011307goldmund/ Jim JlgLaw 09-09-09, 04:45 PM I know someone that owns the turntable, not sure he'll spring for the BR player (he likes his PS3:D). Jim J.Mike Ferrara 09-10-09, 06:42 AM Does one have to bend over and grab their ankles to buy Goldmund equipment? amillians 09-12-09, 01:40 PM The funny (sad?) part is that this is a Profile 1.1 player. God only knows what they would charge for a 2.0 player... DaveUpton 09-12-09, 03:06 PM I hadn't noticed that, but it sure is a sad statement. That sort of money should at least get you the latest technology. |
