My Mits WD-60737, which I just go a little over a month ago, just cut off and wouldn't come back on. I was watching ESPN when the picture froze up and then the screen just cut off. I could still hear sound from the cable box. Then the sound went off and the blue Mitsubishi screen came on. I hit the power button and the black and white Mits screen would come on with sound from ESPN but then it would just cut off. It did that about 5 times before it finally came on again. Anyone know why my brand new tv just did this?

I'm not really sure either. Did you try unplugging it from the wall outler for a couple of minutes to see if that allowed the TV to reset itself.

I didn't unplug it since it came back on after the 5th power on attempt. I'm just hoping that this isn't a sign of something worse to come from this unit.

At least its under warranty...things break-AND-much faster than they ever have in the past. That's why we sell soooo many extd warranties when we r repairing the multitude of LCD, DLP, Plasma's we get every month.
Get the Mits fixed and then buy the 5 yr extd !

From the Op's post it almost sounds like the problem could have been caused by a ESPN intermittant signal broadcasting problem and not by the TV since the TVs blue screen still worked.

I'll never understand why people think the first thing they should do is turn the Tv off and on. Leave the Tv on and try some things like-
Change the channel, press guide, menu, try another input/device
Hard reboot (pull the plug) the source device(s)
Re-seat the AV cables

That was the first thing I did when the TV went black was to change the channel, input/device and nothing happen. Still could hear sound then it went off with flashing green light on the power button. About 4 minutes later the blue/white mists screen appeared as if the tv was shutting down. When I hit the power button it comes on to the black/white/red mits screen as if it was coming back on then instantlly go back to blue/white screen and then shut down.

I've had the tv on now a about 7 hours after that incident and nothing has happened. TV appears to work normally. I did pay for the extra 4 year warranty on the tv through Ultimate Electronics. Never spend this type of money on an electronic and don't get it covered up to at least 3 + years.

If yoiu have a bulb based RPTV shutdown or totally itself off then you do then you will greatly reduce the life of the bulb if you do not give it time to totaly cool down before you turn it back on again. I am not sure of what is a good time but I have always used ten minutes when I experienced any such problems which is about 5 minutes after the fan stops.

Did you notice on the box your Mits was delivered in it says "Made in Mexico?" My WD-65737 did any way.

In the owner's manual in the troubleshooting matrix it lists a reset procedure as the solution to some problems. The reset procedure is holding the power button on the set (not the remote) for 10 seconds. I had to do this when my TV decided it didn't want to talk HDMI with my cable DVR any more. I was about to take my DVR in and swap it out when I tried this as a last resort and it fixed the problem. I had tried a different HDMI cable, I had tried it on all three HDMI ports on the TV, I unplugged the DVR and rebooted it, I verified my media center PC still worked via HDMI, and I had powered the TV off and back on. I got a clue when I hooked up the DVR via component and got a picture and then tried HDMI again and nothing, but when I switched back to component there was a message on the screen stating the TV would not allow the digital signal to be displayed pick another input. So I figured it was an HDMI handshake issue (thanks Hollywood).

So any way, add that to your arsenal of tricks next time your TV does something goofy.

Okay so tonight my TV does the cut off/ cut on with sound only, then cut off again. This time the front power button was flashing amber, then when I tried to cut the tv back on it went to flashing red. I unplugged the tv from the power strip and held the power button for 30 seconds. I plug the tv back into the strip and then it cuts on. My question is what is causing this tv to cut off at random. The tv was only one for maybe 15 minutes. There is nothing blocking the fan in the back so it shouldn't be a heat issue. I'm getting tired of my tv acting crazy. I didn't have any of these funky issues with my Samsung DLP.

Next time it happens get the error code:
Wait for the Tv to fail (orange light).
Do not unplug the Tv.
On the front panel press and hold MENU & INPUT/DEVICE for 10sec.
A light will start to blink a two digit code and repeat.
Example codes are-
12 no problem
34 lamp
66 ballast
etc.

Once you get the code, post back...
