When renewing this this years NFL Sunday Ticket, the DirecTV rep said my old receiver would no long work. They offered a new box (D10-300C) for free, but I like my old Sony. (I don't need HD.) Did I get fed a line of BS, or do I really need a new receiver to watch Sunday Ticket this year?

Thanks,
Bill

I think you do. I have an old RCA receiver and it doesn't get any of the sports packages by DirecTV anymore. I also have DirecTivo receivers and they can still receive the packages like NFLST or NBACP.

What I am planning to do is to buy a newer RCA receiver and upgrade it myself. It will be around $10 for a new receiver + $20 for the new card. The alternative is to lease a new receiver from DTV but they charge you a monthly rate I think.

There's no additional monthly fee to lease a box from D*, just the standard $5 additional per box. The only difference is, if you leave D*, you don't own the receiver, and therefore must send it back to them.
