Hi everyone. I'm in the process of building a new home and I have a few questions regarding my future media room. The media room will be the bonus room (attic converted into a large room) in my home. I live in Louisiana so basements are out of the question. My question is should I go with ceiling speakers or standards speakers attached to the walls? Also what is the best and most cost efficient way to sound proof the media room? I'm guessing since it will be in the attic I will have to sound proof the flooring so my family below won't be disturbed by the sound. How would I go by doing that and do I need to sound proof the walls in my media room also?

You are asking a LOT of very complicated questions....something a lot of us spend months/years researching and reading to understand.
I suggest that you first start reading some of the dedicated HT threads that are around here.
I just posted this in another thread but it is as equally important for you: http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/solutions/residential_soundproofing/
It will help explain some of the concepts that we often talk about here.

I have an A-shape, Attic build like you are proposing, and FWIW I was not inclined to do ceiling spakers for the surrounds. Call me conventional, but I just couldn't wrap my head around getting the soundfield right in that kind of configuration. Here is a pic of how I handled the problem. While it may not be textbook, I am happy with the results. OTOH, I have heard no less than DE himself advocate ceiling speakers, so I'm sure that's fine as well.

As for soundproofing in an Attic, I didn't need to worry about it...and thank god, because he is right; you're going to have to read and research and work it a bit.
