View Full Version : Blue Haze (with Color at 0) on Philips/Mag 64" RPTV (with Pictures)

Today, I plunged in and finally changed the coolant in both the green and blue CRTs of my Philips/Magnavox 9P6444 RPTV. After doing the User-end Convergence and then the Service-Level convergence, the picture is absolutely amazing compared to before.

But, I have a problem.

I've noticed that I'm getting a blue haze (not to be confused with the green haze that I had before I changed the murky coolant) where dark colors meet light colors. This blue haze occurs EVEN when color is set to zero.

What's causing this? Is there a specific adjustment in the service menu that could correct this problem?

I have to note that during the initial convergence, red lined up fine with the green crosshair, but blue was so far off (to the right) that it would only go so far left (about an inch or so on the screen). I had to adjust it over using the Service-Level convergence.

Any help would be appreciated.

High contrast bleed. Blue CRT is dying. You maybe able to diminish the effect temporarily by adjusting contrast down or even adjusting G2 screen controls but that would throw off the grayscale. Only real way to fix is replace the crt.

Oh No!

Could this have been caused by my replacing the coolant? The dark blue haze wasn't occurring just days ago.

Would there even be a source for a replacement CRT for this older TV?

Replacing the coolant would not cause it. This is just old age, weak crt. Call these (http://www.encompassparts.com) people for availability.
