Hey guys,
What is currently the best AT material for a diy screen i now the smx material is great but i dont think you can just buy the fabric anymore. Is there anything just as good or better than the SMX material?
Thanks

Frank, take a look at this thread for some good ideas

and spend some time in general in the DIY screen forum; those guys have their own world.

i think the website to check out is SeymourAV.com. I believe they carry the weave that Sandman used to use before he started smx and created a custom weave for his screens.

There are a bunch of different methods...the DIY screen section will cover them ad nauseum. My first screen was not an AT screen. I built it out of 1x3 poplar and used the vinyl side of blackout fabric. It actually turned out pretty well.

I have the XD material from seymourav and it is great. I'm really happy with its performance.
I spoke with Chris on Friday, nice guy. Chris is sending me a sample of his screen material. I currently use a 1.3 (?) gain Elunevision fixed frame screen with my center below the screen. If I like the image on the sample, I will place my center in front of my existing screen in the correct position to see how much of an improvement the sound is. If I like that I will probably buy some material and use it on my Elunevision frame.
Chris's material is 1.2 gain so it might work. All the other DIY stuff is 1.16 gain and I doubt that it would work for me. I am not going to move the speaker to test unless I like the screen material. I would hate to like the sound better and not be able to do it. Right now I am thinking of placing just the center speaker behind the screen with the mains on each side of the screen. Any advantage to placing all three behind the screen other than hiding the speakers?
