I have an HP laptop and an original xbox. Unfortunately, my laptop does not have the RCA cables, although I purchased a female RCA to S-video cable that I thought would convert the xbox to my computer. I was wondering which program I should use (Windows XP OS) and how to make the xbox work.
I also have an Epson EP-721 projector with the same connections. (no RCA connector) and would like to ultimately connect my xbox to my projector.
Any ideas how to connect my original x-box to my laptop/projector??
I'm a bit confused about your cabling situation and what you are attempting to do. First off the S-Video jack on your laptop is probaly output, there almost always output. I have only seen in on thinkpads.
Do you have your HP laptop model number?
Second you would need to run a stero wire (RCA to Stero) to either your mic on your laptop for sound.
If your laptop can accept incoming signals it likely already has the program
Chances are you can't hook your xbox to your laptop
and as for your projector according to
http://www.testfreaks.com/projectors/optoma-ep721/manufacturer-specifications/
it only has VGA in, you will need to get a VGA adapter which may be fairly difficult as you have an orginal xbox. Try E-bay, used stores.

The model number for my HP is dv4000
Basically the connection is: coming from the Xbox it's an RCA cable. i bought a female RCA to Svideo because I don't have RCA input on my projector. Then plug the Svideo into the projector

If your PJ has S-video in, get one of these....
http://cgi.ebay.com/OFFICIAL-MICROSOFT-XBOX-ADVANCED-AV-PACK-S-VIDEO-NEW_W0QQitemZ370256201346QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Acce ssories?hash=item5634fd4682&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
This will give you actual S video signal, rather than a composite signal. S video will provide a better PQ, with much better colors.
I'm sorry, I misread what inputs your projector has some how
DVI w/HDCP, VGA-In, VGA-Out, S-Video, Audio-In, RS-232, USB as 257 Tony said you get a proper S-video cable for your xbox which will look better then an RCA ti S-video kit.

You don't want to connect your Xbox to a laptop.
To connect to your projector, use a device like the Neoya X2VGA. http://www.x2vga.com/ I have one myself I use with an old VGA monitor. Great device that will let you attach anything with a component cable to a VGA source up to 1080p.

I have one of those. It's a horrible product. Good for low res screenshots but it's a mess otherwise.

I never tried it with the xbox but I did hook a game cube up to it and played a couple levels of Metroid Prime. I thought it was pretty decent for what it is.
