After burning a full day getting HDMI audio working on my GA-E7AUM-DS2H running Mythbuntu, I just wanted to report which tips solved the problem (if you do a google search on this topic you'll see numerous links some with legit information and some not so much).
Disable onboard audio in BIOS. I'm not 100% sure this is required, but it doesn't hurt.
Recompile the latest alsa (0.120)
Configure your .asoundrc. Details can be found in this post (http://forum.boxee.tv/showpost.php?p=49052&postcount=6).
Configure boxee and whatever other apps you're using.
Hopefully, this will help those trying to setup their Linux HTPC in the future so that the process is only a few minutes and not multiple days/weeks.
