View Full Version : Art and other "final touches". Ideas?
Once the carpet is done the last thing is spicing up the walls. We were thinking of going a nature theme instead of a movie theme. What's the best place to get prints? What other accessories should we consider to spice up the final room?
bmackrell 09-08-09, 02:14 PM There are a lot of places to purchase movie prints/posters. You may want to start with AllPosters.com and look through their site. http://www.allposters.com/ (http://www.allposters.com/-st/Movie-Posters_c101_.htm)
One cool thing is they offer a nice wood mounting option (http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?startat=%2FGetMounted.asp&CID=90DEBD188B054EFFA7F34D0BD7B871F1&APNum=3399185&IID=&FindID=&F=&P=&PP=&SearchID=). They mount the poster on hardboard, bevel the edge and provide an offset mounting bracket. It provides a nice professional look.
bone_pa 09-08-09, 06:47 PM what about having a muralist come in and do some nature scenes for you? Also what about some nice reclaimed pieces of lumber for foot stools or side tables?
Thinking something like this...

or this...

Interesting...I do like that. Most of our colors are brown, our walls are a brown, our rug that's coming is a mocha and the tile is a clay/stone color. We want to add some color so we were going to use nature with water(blues), leaves/tress(greens) and maybe some flowers or animals for some other color pop. The natural wood would look nice.
bone_pa 09-09-09, 10:59 AM What about something like this to incorporate the greens, yellows, and blues that you wanted. Its a wall paper mural...or you could go with large prints on canvas of something similar.

This is in the UK but I'm sure you could find something a little closer to home.
victor-eyd 09-09-09, 12:50 PM Another cool thing you can do- I saw this on Divine Design a few years back- was to build a large picture frame and connect branches painted in glossy black (think jail cell bars) inside the frame. Add led backlights and it should look pretty dramatic

whiskey alpha 09-09-09, 01:05 PM Why do anything? I mean do you see posters or anything else inside a commercial theater. I'd put up some acoustical panels, with prints if you like, to help control the room acoustics. JMO
c-not-k 09-09-09, 01:13 PM I agree with WA. Here's a link to some panels that you can have your own art applied to. (http://www.gikacoustics.com/gik_artpanel.html) They also have nature prints.

Who wants their house to like a commercial theater'I myself hate HT chairs in rows.Give me a nice sectional couch and one good lazyboy in My HT room.Throw a few Movie posters on the walls here and their and call it done.I look at some of these HT rooms and laugh how silly and childish they look.A home is suppose to feel like a home not a theather.:D

True, but I can't imagine the room would not need some sort of acoustical treatment. But there are other things to think about too. Such as, glare off of the glass in the poster frames from the PJ, the rattling of all those things hanging on the wall when the sub gets to working. And seriously...it's a place to watch movies, in the dark or dimmly light to the fact, not stare at the artwork on the walls. Save that for the living spaces like the family room!

I guess we are the exact opposite... To me the theater room should feel seperate from the home and be extremely comfortable. A sort of get away for you by yourself or with the family. I also think though it shouldn't be overly decorated and most thought should be put into the acoustics and movie reproduction.
To each there own.
bone_pa 09-15-09, 12:04 AM detzx,
What did you decide to do with your room to finish things off?
