I have a DGL-4100 router and have been trying settings for 3 months with no clear solution.
Currently I have it in the DMZ with PNP enabled and a static IP.
I am tired of trying all the prioritizing of rules because I have not seen any
better experience in trying them. Does anyone know the right way?
My setup: 1 xbox 360
download speed 15 meg upload 3 meg
game rules; question: why do I have to enable PNP & forward ports?

Name IP Address TCP Ports UDP Ports Inbound Filter Schedule
Xbox Live 192.168.0.xxx /53, 80, 3074 "" "" Allow All Always

UPNP enabled
SPI enabled

Gamefuel "rules"
Enable GameFuel > checked
Automatic Classification > checked
Dynamic Fragmentation > not checked
Automatic Uplink Speed > checked
Measured Uplink Speed > 3130 kpbs

Gamfuel Rules List: (currently not enabled but created)
Name Priority Source IP Range Destination IP Range Protocol / Ports
XBL 2 192.168.0.xxx 0.0.0.0-255.255.... UDP 53-53/1-65535
XBL 3 192.168.0.xxx 0.0.0.0-255.255....UDP 3074-3074/1-65535
XBL 4 192.168.0.xxx 0.0.0.0-255.255.... UDP 88-88/1-65535
XBL 5 192.168.0.xxx 0.0.0.0-255.255....TCP 3074-3074/1-65535
XBL 6 192.168.0.xxx 0.0.0.0-255.255.... TCP 80-80/1-65535
XBL 7 192.168.0.xxx 0.0.0.0-255.255.... TCP 53-53/1-65535

I do not know at this point which is best so I currently have the xbox 360 in the DMZ. I have UPNP enabled, along with SPI. The QOS optimal settings
are not very defined. I tried to test my QOS at Stream engine website, but I
can never get it to work..some kind of Java error. Any help is appreciated!:)

Have had mine on DMZ since launch with no issues. Sorry not much help but I don't think having it on DMZ should pose any problems.

It's fine to put your Xbox 360 in the DMZ. The reason that one is advised not to do so for regular PCs is due to the potential to open the machine up to attacks on the various services that it runs (i.e. a security issue). Since the Xbox 360 doesn't have the vast majority of those services, and there's nothing useful to be gained by attempting to compromise one, placing it there is perfectly acceptable. It's somewhat of a brute force method, but if you're having problems fighting with the other router options, why not?

i dont see any issues with it, but to answer the original question, i would not call it optimal... no NAT means no QoS.

if your ports are open, or upnp works properly... i'd stop worrying about it and just play more games :)

Why are you setting all that stuff up to begin with? I have the same router and dont need to set any of that. And I prefer turning Gamefuel off

Same for me. I have the same router and I am not using any special setup except for having a static IP for the Xbox (but that is not really needed either).
