Soooooo I read just now that there was an update for BL today on Steam. Sounds like the patch landed today and I'd assume it's all the systems. If anyone has access to their 360 now and has this, check it out for me, plz. I have to go home at lunch and then prolly do the dashboard update before I can check... bleh. Stoopid Kinect. ;) :p

Last I heard they're still a bit off from it being on the 360. I'll try to check a bit later today though.

We need more complaining about it though, then we can fit in with the other threads on the forum lately. :)

If I could bring in my LMG from this game to BC2.... oh, boy! Peeps might want to get the f**k outta there if they know what's best for them. ;) I'd have nothing to complain about from that point on. :D Let me bring our launchers and even Roland's turrent and .... hell, I'm sure just four of us could hold up an entire 12 man team the way we play. Sh*t.

I read in a couple spots that the PC guys in the past hour have the patch downloading for them but I'm not sure if Microsoft waits til a certain time to upload their version of a patch. I'll be home in an hour to check but I dunno if that the dash update will slow that down. :( Looks like it should be ~30mb for a download. Should be the same for x360.

Just be warned that if you download the ESPN app you will have to then download ANOTHER update for Live. Pretty dumb the way that worked out.

Just checked the Gearbox forum. It appears to be out today but hasn't hit the 360 yet. It says this... "Steam and PC are now live. PS3 and XB360 should be live in the coming hour."

The funny thing is Scott. That PC players are saying it counts all the XP that they gained while they were level 61. So they automatically jumped to level 69. Going to suck because I think you waited to play Robot Revolution so you could level up. I was kinda hoping to play a couple more hours to get to 69. Saves time I guess...

Scott Simonian
11-02-10, 01:46 PM
Not me. Dan was the one that wanted to have retroactive leveling for his character but I think he hasn't played anymore of it either. Good thing I stopped playing my PC character after a few hours of playing the new DLC. I haven't picked it up yet at all for the 360 so I have work to do anyway. Fun work, damnit! :D I look forward to playing this with you guys and maybe we can convince Sorax to join up with us in Dan's place since I don't believe he will get this for 360.

Ambrose

Sounds good. Now I just have to say goodbye to all my good level 61 weapons....

Scott Simonian
11-02-10, 01:50 PM
Not gonna 'goose' them up to level 69, hmmm? ;)

I'm going to try and see if I can get my PC character ported to the 360. I've grown to love that guy and my current weapons are too cool for school. If only to bring just the single LMG I'm holdying 99% of the time to my 360 character, even.

Updated 360 dashboard. Downloaded update for Borderlands on both pc and xbox. Bought Claptrap for the 360 have that downloaded. Fired up my current pc character with update and instantly leveled up to 69. Guess I had plenty of XP already. :p Not surprised really.

Ambrose
11-02-10, 03:42 PM
I think the borderlands update you downloaded on the 360 is a couple weeks old. There was one that came out before the new DLC to get everything ready.

The 360 users on the Gearbox forum still haven't seen the 69 patch yet.

Scott Simonian
11-02-10, 03:46 PM
Ah, okay. I didn't load up the game to confirm as I had to download Revolution anyway. It's definitely up for the pc though. The one on the pc was 30-40 megs and the one I got for the 360 today was only 4 megs. Maybe by the time I get off from work it will be up.

Ambrose

It appears that the XP jumping all the way to 69 is only happening to people that messed with the save file in willowtree. Everyone else is leveling normally.

Scott Simonian
11-02-10, 04:00 PM
Ooohhh.... yeah. About that... :o

I had damn near killed enough things to get to level 200 if it were to go that high anyway so it's all good. :D

I used willowtree to give myself 200 Moxxi Bank slots and 150 Backpack slots. I have a problem with not being able to get rid of guns. We will see if mine jumps to 69. Matt may be the only one to level normally.

Scott Simonian
11-02-10, 04:27 PM
Yeah. I've got about 500 bank slots (huh huh, she said "sluts") and nearly 300 backpack slots for all the crap I carry. Had just recently whittled it down to a reasonably packed inventory to make space for Claptrap but we didnt pick up a single thing in the time we played cause at that time all the loot sucked ass. Played for a few mins on the pc today and I still didnt see any good drops. Just ran to the junkyard to kill the traps at that fort real quick like. Saw nothing but green and white drops with a singular blue weapon drop. Prolly might help to play with other people though. :p

A random player joined our game last night and he was a level 21. We were around 69 by that point. He couldn't do any damage to the enemies but he stuck around getting his share of the XP. He made it to 42 before we heard his mom come in his room and start yelling at him to turn the game off. It was a funny funny thing.

Scott Simonian
11-04-10, 04:05 PM
That was great.

"Don't start counting."

:D

Glad to see there are more playing this still. I have played through the campaign more times than I can keep track of and I still enjoy going through it. I encourage any of you to send me an invite (or you can join up with me) anytime you want to play and I am online. I love helping others beat the game, level up and find sweet lootz. The game is way more fun the more people that can play. A room of four people is a blast!

So yeah. Send me an invite if you have room. I have bought this game and all its DLC twice so you can see I like it enough. :D

Oh, and no worries about any of you that might be low level or inexperienced. It's not too hard to make it work or get one leveled up real quick like. :)

Okay, so my crew and I got ourselves to the Vault on our first playthrough. We beat the boss at the end, got the congrats by the hologram girl, and dropped off the key to Tanis.

Now ... eh. What do we do? I thought there was a way to run through it again but it would be harder and the weapons would be better? No?

Also, we don't have any expansions yet but are willing to buy them - is there a order they need to be played? Do we have to play all the expansions first in order to run through the game again?

We are all around level 36 or 37.

Thanks guys.

I haven't started my 2nd playthrough yet, but from what I recall, you just select 2nd playthrough at the character selection screen.

I decided to work on the DLC right after the first playthrough. I'd say the natural progression would be Zombie Island, Secret Armory, and then the Clap Trap pack. From what I've seen, skip out on Mad Moxxie unless you get it for free.

I need to fire this up again.

That pretty much covers it. I've still got some achievements to finish up in Clap Trap.

Although going through Zombie Island, then finishing playthrough 2 before Secret Armory works as well.

just starting the game. lvl. 7. can someone explain how to correctly use lilith's phase walk? while it's active, do I melee to do damage, or just walk up to an enemy and press RB a second time? both seem to do damage, but, well, I just don't think I'm getting quite what I'm supposed to do. I've read that there's an attack I get later on called phase strike, but what can I do with phase walk in the meantime?

You can do a lot of elemental damage while in phase walk by just standing near enemies, and then more elemental damage when you come in and out of it. That's what I was doing with my siren, standing close and getting stuns and elemental damage and then meleeing as I came out of it for the extra damage bonus.

I played through with a friend that used him - definitely know what you mean!

I really enjoyed the hunter, but the friend I played with was a Rambo type, so I figured the soldier would be the best bet for getting us through. I might start out with the brick for the achievements and get him to where my hunter is and change over (I think around level 18).

Haven't tried or played with anyone that was the Siren. I'm not even sure what her abilities are.

I cheaply leveled one up while playing with Dallas (in basically a few hours to over level 60, lol), but wouldn't be opposed to starting one out from the beginning to see how that goes, that or a hunter which I haven't played that much but seems a lot of fun - especially with as much as I like to snipe in this game.

That was alot of fun with formula, terryb and hebpro. I guess looking at it now it wasn't such a smart thing to buy Borderlands via games on demand and then getting the dlc separately...ended up being as much as the original game when it retailed (Knox, Roxy's and Zombie Island are all still 800 pts each, the other one is 400 pts)

To be honest though I figured I'd buy the core game, play it a few times and put it down for a while. I really didn't think I'd get hooked into the online like this. It's also cool to just plug around a bit on your own too. This title has some serious longevity.

Yeah, 100% good times. You're right, though, it is fun to tool around on your own; I'm more able to appreciate the game world, which is very, very cool. I'm really enjoying the different dynamics: solo is different than 2 player, which in turn is a different experience from 4 player. Excellent game, period.

I've been looking for a good co-op game to play with my sister and was thinking about Halo Reach but didn't want to pay $80 right now for us to play it. I was walking through my Target last night and saw Borderlands in the clearance bin for only $7.48 and after reading this thread I figured I'd get the most bang for my buck with it so I bought two and will send one to my sister. They did have the GOTY edition for $39 which was the same as Reach. I guess if we like it we can get the DLC later.

I hope you guys are right :D

i like halo, and really like halo coop, but borderlands is an entirely different beast... it's built from the ground up for coop, and in my eye's it's 10 times better while playing with friends.

i dont see how any fan of coop would dislike it.

haha, giant bomb just gave it their "2010's 2009 game of the year"

"2009's Borderlands is such a 2010 game that it's on the verge of becoming a 2011 game. That might sound like nonsense, but mostly what it means is that a good number of us are still actively playing Borderlands even today, over a year after it came out. That's largely because Gearbox did such a great job of supporting the game with ongoing DLC releases this year, putting out four new packs that thoroughly rounded out the world of Pandora and made Borderlands feel more like the game we all wanted it to be when it shipped.

We're not sure Gearbox is finished pumping out new areas, quests, and loot for Borderlands (hell, we don't even think Gearbox is sure if they're finished), but one thing is for sure: we're ready to play any new content for the game they want to gin up before we get our hands on the inevitable sequel."

Ha, that's funny sh-t. It's def. a 2010 - make that 2011 - game for me. It was on my radar when it was released, but somehow I just never got around to playing it until now. I wish more developers would focus on making awesome co-op experiences. I know there are some good examples out there, but it seems like devs focus too much on MP and that co-op is usually an afterthought.

I assume you are asking how to increase your level?
Killing enemies gets you XP as does completing quests. After so much XP you'll level up.
Most missions are initially fed to you in a specific order to keep you at the correct level for the mission.

After some time you start getting options for the order you want to go through the missions. Core story missions will go in order but you'll also have side quests to gain additional XP.

Some people will farm areas to boost their level and make missions easier but I've generally found that this isn't necessary.

At first I thought each character had about the same number of kills. But now I remember with the first character I quit a number of times during a mission when I got tired of continually getting killed. So I guess that character killed the same guys several times and I was unintentionally farming. I assume that is how you farm XP.

There is no specific modes, you can just play the whole game co-op if you wish.

For example, I started playing last week. Got to lvl 7. My GF's son started playing his own SP game. He got to lvl 7. Then last night, we both played Split screen, and we each got to lvl 10 or 11. He went to bed, I kept playing and got to lvl 13 I think.

When he logs back on, he will continue where he quit. I will continue where I quit. I can go back and play the parts over that I did with him if I choose, or he can join me. You can drop in and out wherever.

Scott Simonian
01-10-11, 11:58 AM
One thing you guys have to pay attention to if you are doing a lot of 'drop in, drop out' coop sessions with friends is keeping an eye on what story missions you have completed or not.

Let's just say you and a buddy started the game from the beginning and got to level 10, blah blah blah. Doing every mission available. Buddy #2 drops out and calls it a night. You keep playing, go into the next area, kill Skagzilla and keep on playing and even kill Mad Mel. You quit and call it a night before you get to New Haven. Next day you start up your game and invite Buddy #2. He only played up til Sledge and you went on to kill Mad Mel. Buddy #2 did not host the game either time playing together. For Buddy #2, the story based missions are all ineligible because his character wasn't with you to do the last few story advancing missions. He can continue to play thru with you but he will never get credit for any story mission from that point on.

So what you do in this situation is have Buddy #2 host the game and invite you to his game. You still have the progress done and get to repeat the stuff you did without he/she. Actually, I like this cause it gives me a reason to shoot more bad guys. Heheh but that's how the coop progress is tracking and you definitely have to keep track of this if you have a friend that wants to play through the whole game with you.

Sorry if that seems long winded.... man... I got like less than 3hrs sleep. Surprised if my spelling is even correct. :p Heh heh heh.

I ran into this the other night when I played co-op with a friend who was just starting. But I couldn't figure out what was needed to have him host the game (this was local split screen). So I ended up creating a new character which was a pain because I kept switching to weapons my new character didn't have.

Hmm, I haven't done local split screen in some time. IIRC, if your friend is just using a non-live account he may have to catch up on his own. I am not sure. Though I believe if signs in as player 1 on the console he can "host" the game from his player and then you would just play as player 2.

yes, it was kind of confusing last night when we set it up. You join, but then you have to be sure to select your character. It tries to get you to start with a brand new one. I wanna say on the bottom of the screen you see the button that corresponds with choosing your character.

sync
01-10-11, 02:53 PM
Here's what I found for split screen setup. If both players already have a character saved then both players can select what character to use.

However, if someone hasn't played before then that person needs to host. But the second player isn't allow to select their character and has to also start as a new character.

In that case, the new person should first create a character in single player mode.

Are those the skills you gain by applying skill points or are there innate skills?

Scott Simonian
01-12-11, 11:19 AM
It's for applied skills, for the most part anyway. I use the Solider class exclusively and he (Roland) has skills based around machineguns and shotguns and the like where as someone like the Hunter (Mordecai) will have skills dependant on pistols and sniper rifles. Not that either character class cannot effectively use other weapon types at all. It's just they are even moreso effective when you have skills based around a certain type of weapon.

My decked out Soldier is not to be messed with when holding machineguns and that's just how I like it. :)

I don't see anything in the soldier's skill tree that seems to specifically impact machine guns.

Scott Simonian
01-12-11, 01:00 PM
It may not say specifically for machineguns but the net effect does indeed most benefit from the high volume of fire weapons such as the assault rifles and such. Many of the skills include increasing the size of the magazines, rate of fire and weapon stability. True, these will benefit all weapons but I think that they work best with the rapid fire variety.

Also, for you Roland users, the turret is indispensable. Upgrade that baby and you won't regret it. :D Extra tip: enemies are drawn to the turret so it works great as a distraction device as swarms will pile towards it.

I guess I need to learn more about weapons. Except for shotguns and sniper rifles, I just pick my weapons based on the amount of damage it can do per second and whether or not I want a scope. Apart from that I have no idea why I would choose a revolver, pistol, SMG or assault rifle.

have you unlocked the ability to use class mods yet? these are what really dictates which weapon types are best for your class.

the hunter gets buff to sniper, bird (hunter only), and pistols.

the siren gets buff to smg, phasewalk (siren only), and snipers.

the berserker gets buff to launchers, berserk (berserker only), and shotguns

the soldier gets buff to assault/combat/machine gun/rifles, turret (soldier only) and shotguns.

(there are also other class mods that buff elemental, healing, shields, etc... but i'm trying to keep it simple)

with that being said, each class can buff weapons in different ways (clip size, fire rate, ammo regen, etc) and any class can use any weapon well.... those classes with those class mods will just be better than another class with the same weapon at the same level.

I took a look at what missions were available in Live Custom Match. Almost all of them were "keep your insides inside" which seemed odd.

I did a search on this mission and see that there is a glitch with it not completing for a lot of people.

Does this mean I should host my own matches to play online?

i'd also recommend against buying, unless it's GOTY, or 400 ms points.... it's not that great but having the bank is nice.

on the other hand, if you have GOTY, it's the only dlc i'd say you could hop in on for a chance of pace, and then go back to the "main" game... the other dlc's require you invest a little more time, and some of the jokes rely on some of the characters from the original game.
