Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a pair of stereo speakers for my home-theatre system. I want to pair them with my Marantz sr5003 a/v receiver.

I have narrowed down my choices to the Jamos mentioned in the title (though I could be pursuaded to look at other similarly priced brands if someone presents a good argument. Paradigm? Mission? the locally made Krix? et al).

True, the speakers will be rigged up to a home theatre system, but I mainly will use them for audio played through my Oppo BD-83 and Logitech Squeezebox Duet. So the ability to reproduce stereo audio quality is uppermost for me. And the only music I listen to is classical (mainly chamber music) if that is relevant as far as speakers go. And a lot of the time I don't have the music up all that loud (since I live in an apartment with people above, below and next to me who don't necessarily share my aesthetic tastes).

I am currently leaning towards the C407s since I have heard that they are better for music than the s606s. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find much feedback on the net on these; far less than on the more popular s606s.

any advice and opinions greatly appreciated.

Haven't heard either one of those Jamo speakers, but just strictly based on specifications, I think I'd get the C407. How much do they cost where you are? I don't think they're sold over here in the US.

Prices here are not as good as in the USA. They both retail for about $AUS1500, but I can get them for around $1150 delivered. ($AUS1.00 = $US0.85)

Well, in that price range you may be able to find other good speakers as well - Monitor Audio RS6, Paradigm Monitor 7 or 9, just to name a few.

Best bet would be to find a stereo shop where you could audition some speakers before spending the money.

Yeh, I've heard the Monitor Audio RS6 ($1650) and they sounded pretty nice. I am also thinking of maybe buying one of the many good Australian brands; Krix, Aaron, Sonique, SuBsonic, or maybe even the English Mission. There is a lot of choice out there in the 1-2k bracket.

But is the consensus on here that Jamo lower end speakers (s606 or c407) are not that great when it comes to music? I was under the impression the C407s looks good in terms of specs (but it impossible to find a shop to listen to them live).

I don't think there is any consensus here. This is mainly a US-based forum, and I don't think these particular models are even sold here. We've got a bunch of C6xx and C8xx models here as well as some leftover E6xx models available. Plus some HTIB (home theater in a box) little satellite speaker setups, and that's about it.

I've got a pair of C607s and a pair of C603s, and I like them quite a bit, but I couldn't tell you how different they sound compared to C407. And finding professional reviews of any of them is next to impossible for some reason.

Thanks Pete. It's interesting Jamo don't sell the same models all over the world.
Anyway, I'll think about it. There is just so much choice in the 1k-2k bracket: I'm tossing up to buy one of the local Australian makers (Krix, Aarons, Richter, Legend etc) or an international brand (English, or Danish). Something tells me that buying local might have an advantage in terms price and quality (since less transportation costs).
