LOL, I live 5 minutes from World Wide Stereo. I don't know a lot about Jamo's but I have auditioned some of their higher end speakers. They sounded damned good. OTOH, WWS doesn't exactly give stuff away so I'd do some research in the Jamo threads here before pulling the trigger. I think that deal has been on their site for quite a while so I'm guessing something doesn't add up. Maybe these are the cheapy HTIB version Jamo sells just like Paradigm?

I was just about to buy them. I'm glad you sent me this message. That would suck if that's the case. They seemed really promising. :(

Well there are some people here that like Jamo so that is a good start, I have never heard them so I would be hard pressed to say one way or the other, I did some quick google research on the speaker models in question and generally people are saying positive things about them online so that is another point in their favor.

Looking at them I have 2 thoughts.

#1 they are terrifyingly light at about 20 lbs per tower.

#2 that is a lot of speaker for the money, it's hard to get 4 floor standers and a center for that price at all, unless they totally suck that is a great deal.

Well, that is a really cheap price and maybe after some poking around on here you may still go for them. It shouldn't be hard to figure out. WWS is the highest end boutique shop around here. They sell B&W at all levels including the very top so they know what they're doing.

The first 6th Avenue in PA. is right across the street from them and they have started to load up with some serious KEF speakers as their high end brand. 6th Ave. is where I saw the Paradigm HTIB for very cheap so I'm guessing that's what is happening with these Jamo's at WWS. Could be wrong though...

If you are looking for something really nice near that price range there are many other options, especially ID.

Check out the big Jamo thread here on the forum. From what I remember, people have been quite happy with those speakers.

Well, they are not that big, even though they look huge in photos. But still, weight is rather on the low side. But if you're buying speakers by the pound, that's still a good deal - about $3.50 a pound. :D My C607s were about $6.70 a pound. LOL

Off the top of my head, you could take a look at the new WAF-1's from Tweak City Audio (thread below). True, they are bookshelves, not "towers" but the whole idea with these new WAF-1's was to provide a high level of quality at the lowest possible price (aside from DIY of course). They are a bit more expensive if you really need 5 but they are undoubtedly worth it. You could just get 3 for a LCR and look for a decent sub on A'gon.

I'd still check out reviews on the Jamo's but I bet you find that specific kit is hardly ideal.

If by ideal you mean floor space, I've got plenty of that.

No, I'm thinking more along the lines of quality. Like I said, that deal has been on there for a long time and WWS is not geared to sell cheap stuff. My guess (and it's just a guess without checking) is that these are pretty low end as Jamo goes. But do check the Jamo threads by all means.

I bought the Jamo package. It's just too good a deal to pass up. I'm upgrading from a Yamaha HTIB so I'm sure it will blow me away.

Congrats. I did a quick scan of the Jamo thread and people really seem to like these speakers especially for that price. Good job.

Their low frequency extension is only 45 Hz, so you will certainly want to pair them up with a subwoofer, but this is a non-issue since you would want a sub for proper home theater experience anyway. Get them crossed over at 80 Hz and you'll be good to go.

I have the E660 towers as well as the E680s. The E660s are a very good small tower. The folks at wwstereo bought the remaining Jamo inventory of E680s and E660s earlier this year. At the beginning the E680s were $129 and the E660's were $99. For the $30 price difference the E680s were clearly better because of its dual 8" woofers and much bigger platform. Since then wwstereo has lowered the price to $69 which is a steal. The E680s are all sold out in black but they do still have dark apple which you have to special order for $129.

You're not going to find a tower speaker for $69 that competes with this. Try finding a pair of bookshelf speakers for $140/pr that sounds better. I had some Energy C-100 bookshelf speakers that I sold because I like the Jamos much better. Energy makes very good speakers but the entry level C-series doesn't have the clarity in mids/high frequencies of these Jamos or the higher up Energy product lines.

The E660 is a small slim tower and doesn't weigh much at all, just 20lbs. But even at that light weight I've had no problems with sounds resonating. They have good build quality. I've used them as mains, surrounds and standalone speakers. They work best with a subwoofer but are very solid down to 50hz so they can be used with two channel music. When I ran Audyssey on my Denon 989 it set the crossover at 40hz for the E660s. I bumped it up to 60hz later.

Billzfan,
You would be very impressed at this 5.0 system for $380 shipped. What receiver and subwoofer do you have?

Attached is a picture of the E680s and E660s were the grilles on and off. You can see how much shorter and slimmer the E660 is compared to its big brother. This was taken when I first got them. All the Jamos are now in my bedroom with the 680s as fronts and 660s as surrounds.

I'm not a huge fan of Sony receivers but they're okay. I'd prefer HK, Onkyo, Denon and a few others over Sony's offerings. But if you got a decent price, its not a bad start. the user reviews on Amazon.com are just okay.

If you paid anywhere near $350-$375 I feel the Denon 1910 would be a better choice.

The yamaha sub kicks really good. The Sony receiver is fantastic. I actually owned a Denon previously and like the Sony a lot better.

Thanks again. I can't wait to hear my new speakers!! Would you recommend I go 7.1 and eventually get 2 more speakers or is that overkill in a medium sized room?

afrogt

Depends on the way your room is set up. 7.1 has to be implemented properly in order for you to get the best surrond sound. A lot of rooms don't have the ability for you to do a proper setup.

Well, it's doable to do 7.1 but it might be overkill because the 2 additional rears would be quite far from where the main sitting area is and the 2 additonal rear speakers would be right next to each other because the stairs are right next to it.

Yeah. I use the same sub with my PC. It is surprisingly good, considering it only has a 50 Watt amp. If the room it's working in isn't too big, it actually manages quite well. Certainly, it doesn't have the punch of an SVS or some other big gun, but for $100, it's hard to beat.

Still, instead of contemplating 7.1, save up for a new sub first.
