View Full Version : HLD-X9 / MSC-4000 MUSE Hi-Vision Problem
WildZero 09-09-09, 05:39 AM Hello,
Maybe there are still a few MUSE lovers out there how can help me. :)
I have a sound problem with my Pioneer HLD-X9 / Sony MSC-4000 combo. Recently i got the Chaplin MUSE LD,
it is the first one i own which does not have an EFM track. Before i had been using simply the sound
output from the HLD-X9 when watching MUSE. Since the Chaplin disc does not have EFM (only B Mode)
i tried to use the sound output from the Sony MSC-4000 for the first time. No luck, no audio at all.
Its not a problem with cables and/or Receiver, tried several. Tried other discs as well (A Mode, B Mode),
no sound at all. Picture is working fine, EFM output is working fine as well.
Since i do not have another decoder i do not even know if it is a problem with the decoder or the player.
Thank you!
What happens is that sometimes people sell Muse Decoders because they already have problems....
But are you shure you tried everything?
You are using "component" from the Decoder to your TV right?
tkmedia2 09-14-09, 11:42 AM I never used the 4000, but some decoder have buttons that you switch the audio type.

I think i tried everything:
- Different cables from player to decoder
- Different cables from decoder to receiver
- Tried A Mode and B Mode discs, both no Audio (EMF output directly from the player works).
- Tried all audio outputs of decoder (even the digital ones), none gives
any signal
....
The bad thing is that i don't even know if it is a Player or deoder problem
(i hope decoder...).
And yes, component to the TV. In the past i used RGB to my projector,
works as well. So no problem with video at all.

I think i tried every combination on the onscreen menus there is. I understand
how to switch 2-5 Channel output in the decoder but nothing helps.
I only have an incomplete translation of the japanese manual though.
So if there is anybody who has a translation of the MSC4000 manual
or knows if there is the possibilty that i missed something in the onscreen
menu please let me know :)
Thank you!
Guess that is better for you to upgrade to Blu Ray...;);)
Hi-Vision died...
WildZero 09-15-09, 10:15 AM Hahaha yes it died a long time ago, but not for me :D
And i own a Blu-ray player as well :p
Christopher054 10-01-09, 01:17 AM Yes it hasn't died for me as well, as I am still collecting LD's and soon to be added Muse titles.
Hahaha yes it died a long time ago, but not for me
And i own a Blu-ray player as well.
All the formats co-exist in my setup also, and laserdisc is still King of formats for myself.
I have DVD's / HD DVD's and Blu-ray's, but Laserdisc's / the hardware LOVELY:D:D:D
martinrow 10-01-09, 07:26 AM What are the good thing and bad things about this baby?:D:confused::eek:
It was an expression...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Of course Hi-Vision is nice, and i consider it to be most luxurious format according to the "crazy" trading prices.
Some titles are really hard to find.
WildZero 10-07-09, 12:13 PM MSC4000 problem "solved". Decoder is damaged...
Was able to test with another MSC4000 and it worked fine.
About the prices, yes some really crazy ones! I am sure most of you have seen
Back to the Future 2 & 3 selling for more then 800$ (each!) on ebay recently!
But why don't you take it to Sony for repair? It might be something simple and that decoder was very expensive at the time. I think it's worth to fix.
Yes, prices on Back to the Future seem to be very high, in fact very few copies we're made of part 2 and part 3.
Anyone here have the MSC-4000 remote?
I need discrete codes for POWER and INPUT, or at least the Sony IR device ID for a MUSE decoder. If you have the remote, I could make the rest work if you could capture a few button presses (any) in Pronto or raw format.
I don't understand....
You cannot get the codes from SOny? By the way i think Sony still has those remotes in Japan...

Unless you know how I can get access to an engineer, then no, Sony is not helpful in providing any information beyond an instruction manual. If you know the P/N for the remote, I would be most appreciative.
Yes
I know what you mean, i had a Sony MDP-650 Laserdisc Player and i sold it because of the stupidity of Sony in "not helping" in parts and fixing.
It was the day i promissed my self i wouldn't buy Sony anymore.
Sony i only have PS3 and a MSC-4000 Decoder, because if Pioneer had PS3 i would buy Pioneer.
And Muse Decoder Pioneer i cannot find any... besides they are older and i don't think they are better than the Sony.
bluerebel83 07-27-11, 08:29 AM What kind of cables do u need to hook up the muse LD player to the muse decoder?
And from the muse decoder to the tv?
Sheer Lunacy 07-28-11, 10:25 PM I have successfully deciphered the remote control codes for the MST-2000 tuner/decoder. If someone wanted to lend me an MSC-3000 or -4000, I could do the same. See the links in my sig for the incomplete "user guide" I've made (including the codes), as well as a good schematic explanation of hooking up a MUSE setup.
