This is probably a stupid question but I haven't been able to find a definitive answer on it. Actually its a mult-part stupid question.

1)are most BD titles that you buy recorded in single layer or dual? Or is it a a split? I ripped a disc today and its only 23 GB so I assume its single layer?

2)Can anyone give me some examples of content recoded in single versus dual layer?

3)I've read that there is software that can compress dual-layered content onto a single layer disc but what is the impact of this? Does it still look BD quality or does it look like half-assed BD content?

also any recommenedations on cheapest place to buy these writiable discs?

thanks!

most discs are dual layer (though you had a lot more single layer discs coming out in the HDDVD days). recompressing the video stream takes a long time. this topic will probably get deleted.

Roughly 2/3 of the discs currently available are dual layer.

You can see which ones on the Stats site (http://www.blu-raystats.com/Stats/Stats.php).

It's not that simple. A dual-layered release doesn't necessarily mean better PQ compared to a single-layered disc. The main feature may still fit into a single layer but the extra space is taken up by extra audio and bonus tracks. Some dual-layered discs could be only a little over the single-layer limit.
