Does anyone know if more than just buying the appropriate lens is needed, to shooting video in IR (infrared spectrum)..?

I see a few filters that will fit either my sony hi-8 dv (older) camcorder, or my newer canon HF10 hdef one..

I thought i heard somewhere that some inner tweaking needs done for this to work correctly? I think the correct term for this type of filter would be IR (transmitting/passing) filter?

I was hoping just a filter like this would alone do the trick:

Thanks in advance

What your looking at is the Sony Night Shot / X-Ray Camcorder thing. It will not see a color thermal image, just a B/W in the low infrared, in bright sunlight. This is an old trick modification of the camcorder.

Regular camcorders are designed not to respond to IR thus your plan will not work.

You need a special IR camera, or a camera that is not IR filtered, eg a security camera.
