View Full Version : Setting Up New Devices...
ABEMCDONALD 09-13-09, 02:18 AM Ok, for the time being I am thinking of getting a DVE for the TV's I have now...until I move and get Lee to come out and help.
I am curious here...I have a PS3 that will do my gaming/BD/DVD, but will DVE only set up that HDMI input? What happens to my TV when I want to watch cable in HDMI? Does it set those as well?
I'm just new and curious how this goes....
...Thanks.
jdoostil 09-13-09, 12:07 PM the basic settings should be close, if not exact. Unfortunately, theres no way to tell. after you work on one HDMI, plug your PS3 into the other HDMI and start from scratch. depending on the TV, the picture mode you calibrate in may be global to all of the inputs

Thanks. However, the TV I have has different settings for EACH input. So can't I just copy the settings from the first one over to the other HDMI input?
Hopefully, you guys' are getting my question;
"I have a PS3 for gaming and BD/DVD connected via HDMI.
I have cable through a provider locally, connected via HDMI.
My plasma saves input settings for each one of the connections (ie, componet, HDMI, a/v cables).
...Do I just copy over the PS3 settings (which will run the DVE) to the cable HDMI input as well?"

Yes you do,
But then as the above poster mentioned, I would switch the PS3 over to that input and verify that the settings you put in are giving a comprable result.

May I ask why they wouldn't?

Sometimes TV's are weird like that.
Something may be different in the service menu.
They'll likely match up at the same resolution.
I know my set handles different resolutions differently though.

Interesting ...
..If it doesn't "match up" or look good...do I manually config then? What's the point on the disc...just for movies?

after rereading and realising you're just doing it by eye, the chances the diffierence will be visible is pretty much nill.

I"m extremely lost now...
...If I pick up DVE the difference between my "copied" eye calib and the DVE will be nill?

What I meant is that when calibrating with a meter, verifing the inputs is probably a good idea. An may result in a click one way or the other for some controls on a different input. But the difference between the click will likely be to small to discern by eye.
Calibrating by eye from DVD based patterns, it is incredibly unlikely that if any differences exsist between inputs that they'd show up.
Also differece between input are usually related to input type (HDMI, Component, svideo (bleh)), input format (RGB, YUV, ect..), input resolution (1080i, 1080p, 720p, ect).
So when everything matches up chances of there being any difference is pretty much nil, and I suppose if you use the PS3 as a source, but your cable box is slightly different, unless you reconfigure the PS3 to output the same signal type and connection type as the cable box, you won't be able to replicate the signal chain.
ABEMCDONALD 09-14-09, 11:24 PM Thanks...I had no idea that if I have 2 HDMI inputs, that it would calib for ALL of them to that setting...awesome.
