Sony has been really waiting for the right market conditions and technology to launch their 4K home theater projector.
Has anyone heard where Sony stands now as far as a flagship is concerned?

I imagine Sony is waiting for one or two things from a technical perspective.
1 A 3D enabling technology with sxrd
2 Hopefully lasers as the light source

Initially, years ago , I think Sony waited for the right moment to launch and the financial crises delayed launch again. During this time I bet the technology got outdated and sent them back to reengineer an updated new flagship.

Matthias,
When we ever see all that money Sony spent on GLV(Grating Light Valve)put to use in an affordable home product.Maybe never, but Sony must be anxious about the way JVC has been beating them.:)

I'm wondering if the time is wrong for flagship statement products ?

No need to wonder - Sony is bleeding $$$. The PS3 has not produced the revenue Sony was hoping for. FWIW, if you need a big screen with lots of light output, the 004 still delivers the goods, and today, at a steal.

Mike. If I had the choice today to buy a 004 at used prices but with a new bulb or to buy a new generation machine for the same bucks, I don`t think I could rationally choose an 004. I think overall picture quality would be clearly substantially surpassed. For example, I would choose a VPL-vw200 over an 004. Street prices about the same particularly used to used.

I have to agree with Mark. I sold my 004 and picked up a Lumis. THe picture is sharper, the blacks are multitude better. I think my calculated CR on my 004 was near 2000:1 at its best - the Lumis is closer to 10X or 15X better. The blacks and dynamic range are where the new SIM2 really shines. The 004 has a great looking picture, very film like with accurate colors... but the poor black levels and lack of a razor blade sharp picture compared to today's projectors make it easier to overlook. I sold mine for $4500.

Thx Mark. Hope you are feeling better. This fall I'll drop by and we will talk. I have upgrade fever :p

i get the feeling that sony are focus more on a 3d full hd pr.
than to a 4k 2d consumer pr.and that make sense.

3d in 2k with a good pr. is far better than 4k in 2d for 95% of all user.

i dont see today how they can make srdx that fast to drive full hd in 3d
without mutch gosting bugs but i am sure they will try it hard.
