Ever watch a Blu Ray movie that had hardly if at all been at the local theater and yet is just fantastic in cinemascope?

I picked up Mongol from Inet.video cheap.

Its 2:35, only Mongolian Dolby Digital sound with subtitles. Its the story (I don't know how true) of Genghis Khan.

This is one fantastic movie!!! Great character development. I like that the subtitles are really easy to follow per character and not confusing like in some movies. And you really feel like you are there. Excellent picture, and the merely Dolby Digital sound was excellent. It tells a real pesonal, family story, not just a warrior. It was filmed on location in Pakistan, China, etc.

One of the better movies I've seen in the past year, which really surprised me!

It helps that I have my Lumagen XE set up a special 24p 2.5 aspect ratio so we can see the subtitles for the occasional subtitled film like this one!

Steve I can relate. Some of my all time favs and most of my collection are what most would consider B movies. Whats funny is the transfers are better then most block busters. For some reason if its a popular movie they feel they have to tweak the transfer thinking J6P cant watch a movie without DNR and Edge Enhancement.

This movie suprised me too.
Beautiful movie with exceptional cinematography and very conscious use of DOF and focus shifts. Some of the most creamy bokeh I have ever seen. Supposedly shot on Arri camera and lenses, but as the director and crew where Russian I guess they brought with them some "old russian lens magic" to obtain that kind of visuals.

Possibly a continuation; "The Great Khan " is in the works. Also mad me curious
about the directors previouse movie Nomad. (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0374089/)

The UK. BD has the subtitles in the picture and nothing in the black bars.
The extras (in crappy SD) is worth a look.

It was filmed on location in Pakistan, China, etc.

Inner Mongolia, China & Kazakhstan, not Pakistan.

Excellent film.

"The Great Khan" is indeed a continuation, its the second part of a trilogy.

what exactly do you do to see the subtitles in scope format?

Instead of using a 2.35 or 2.40 aspect ratio, you use a 2.50 aspect ratio, which has a little border on each side, and a bit bigger border at the bottom of the cinemascope screen, so you can see the subtitles to the extent they are a line or two below the video material. The Lumagen website has a tips section for how to set this up.

Someday somehow somewhere SB will make a post stating that he picked something up not cheap.

Curse of the Golden Flower is colorful at 2.35:1. If you can forgive some of the storyline shortcomings, Coraline was a visual stunner too.

I have high hopes for "Once Upon a Time in the West" if it comes to blu-ray. The DVD release was excellent.
