Please no flaming….i am an A/V noob 

I have been doing some reading and am not sure which way to go with the hdmi/audio setup. Is it worth the effort of splitting the hdmi to a separate tv input to allow game mode settings? The television (Panasonic TCP65v10) has multiple HDMI Inputs as does the receiver (Pioneer VSX1019).

Any advice is greatly appreciated

thx in advance

I'm not sure what your talking about with splitting?
For the full home theater experince send the HDMI cable to reciver, then reciver to TV.

He's talking about taking advantage of the fact that you can have different picture settings on a per input basis.

I have a TC-P50V10 and I route my Xbox360 through my receiver. I adjusted the color settings under Custom for HDMI1 and use that for all my sources. It looks pretty good to me. The game mode doesn't do anything, it's just marketing. However, if you wanted to tweak the colors on another input just for the console, you could. To my eyes, it's not necessary.

There is no way to split an HDMI connection. But you can always use the optical cable to route audio to your receiver.

Somebody should tell monoprice that there is no way to split an HDMI connection! They've been selling HDMI splitters for a few years now with full HDCP support.
