View Full Version : 5 reasons to buy the Xbox 360 Pro CRT Dude 09-13-09, 05:13 PM Not the Elite (http://www.ethiopianreview.com/scitech/8175). Not good reasons IMO. Ripeer 09-13-09, 05:13 PM *article still loading* If there not good reasons then why did you post them? *Having read the article... writer=idiot?* He doesn't seem know or mention Digital Distrubutin of Videos, Full Games, Orginals or installing games the harddrive. oo7evan 09-13-09, 07:21 PM 1. It comes with an HDMI cable. Potential savings: $10 (for me: $0, don't need one) 2. you MIGHT get a free controller. Potential savings: $40 (for me: $0, don't need one) 3. You don't need 120GB This is debatable, but he doesn't mention the benefit of installing games to the HDD and the future XBLA and original games becoming larger and larger. I'd like the extra 60 GB 4. The black is so Sony. Subjective. I'd like the more subtle Elite in my entertainment center 5. It saves you money. Here he uses more bad math that he already used before. You could get a new Pro and 120GB china knockoff on ebay for $70 I guess. tgable 09-14-09, 04:41 AM How is that good article, looks like BS to me. A controller is not a $50 value if you can buy it for $30. HDMI cable? Buy one for $4 and move on. 120Gb not needed? We have DLC, full installs, demos, movie DL, etc. 120GB is barely enough! Best reason for a Elite? It does not look like a giant metrosexual iPod. Ripeer 09-14-09, 10:06 AM I should point out that around here elites are going with a wifi adapter and halo 3 vegaskiller73 09-14-09, 10:49 AM That leaves saved game files, which are quite small, and downloaded games. The benefit to the 120g HDD on the Elite is to install the disc games on your HDD. Average game is 6gs. Add in, DLC, Profile info and all the other nic nacs and a small HDD is gone very quick. The guy that wrote this article is very confused. Why not get the Elite with the bigger HDD? Shoot I'm witing till the new 250g HDD comes out.:D jpjibberjabber 09-14-09, 10:58 AM Ethiopian Review lol rpggamer 09-14-09, 12:07 PM I like my elite, its pretty and it matches my cable box, my PS3, and my TV. hotdogwater2 09-14-09, 12:38 PM didn't mention the fact that full downloadable games are coming soon Ripeer 09-14-09, 02:44 PM didn't mention the fact that full downloadable games are coming soon Whatcha you talkin bout wilson? There already here for a number of games. hotdogwater2 09-14-09, 07:32 PM ok yes, i but i thought they were about to release a bunch more soon. :p vancouver 09-14-09, 07:44 PM in either case you still get a 1 in 4 chance it will die. sad but true Daekwan 09-15-09, 09:51 AM in either case you still get a 1 in 4 chance it will die. sad but true Lets be a little more clear on the "truth". There have been 3 major revisions to the internals, each drastically reducing the chance of fail rates. I've seen failures for those revisions along these lines: 1st) Opus/Zypher (or some name close to that, 90nm CPU/GPU). These were the original launch unit 360s. Alteast a 50% fail rate on these. 2nd) Falcon (90nm CPU/GPU with redesigned motherboard & heat sink). These became popular right around the time when MS started including an HDMI port on every 360 (Spring 2007). The fail rate on these did improve, but its still pretty high. I'd guess atleast 25%. 3rd) Jasper (smaller 65nm CPU/GPU, redesigned internals, smaller power supply). These units debuted Fall 2008 starting the arcade. Easy to identify by the 256mbs of storage included inside the system OR the 12.1A reading on the console/power supply. The fail rate on these is finally acceptable I believe its less than 3% if that high. If at all possibly you want to get your hands on a Jasper. It uses almost half the power of the previous designs, and runs much cooler and quieter. Of course the best reason to get one is that is finally reach an acceptable reliablity rate. RAVEN56706 09-15-09, 09:52 AM good points daekwan TonyDP 09-15-09, 08:46 PM If at all possibly you want to get your hands on a Jasper. Not to sound like a contrarian, but I just picked up a new Arcade over the weekend to replace my dead Elite (which is now on its way to MS to repair an E74 error). It's definitely a Jasper as it comes with the 256mb of internal storage and 12.1A power supply, and I've extensively played three games on the console over the past few days - Dead Space, Batman: Arkham Asylum and just today Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2. While my console is very quiet when just turned on, the minute I plop a CD into the drive it turns into a noisy buzzsaw. While playing games it's the noisiest 360 I've owned by far in fact (and I'm on my 4th one). Marvel: Ultimate Alliance in particular is almost unplayable given the noise; I can only assume it is constantly streaming info from the DVD. I don't know if I just got one with an el-cheapo DVD drive or what but while the games play fine I really have to crank up the volume to mask the noise, something I really didn't need to do with my Elite (which I purchased in March of 2008). Upon removing the DVD after an hour's play, the console continues to be very noisy. Since the drive is no longer spinning at that point, I can only assume the noise is coming from the fans. Now I know I can just install the games to the hard drive, but the various buzzes and whirs coming from the console just don't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Again, I could have just ended up with a bad apple (I'm seriously thinking of exchanging it this weekend) but if my experience is anything to go by, the Jasper isn't necessarily as much of an improvement as I would have hoped. vancouver 09-16-09, 07:11 PM Lets be a little more clear on the "truth". The article was on CNN two weeks ago. Having said that its promising to hear the failure rate is 3% for Jasper. IMO it should say Jasper on the box, or they should pull the others. |
