View Full Version : 2 consoles within range of controllers
Mike LS 09-13-09, 08:41 PM I recently got a 2nd 360 to put in the living room. My other console is in the basement theater, which is directly under the living room...the 2 boxes are separated by about 10-12 feet through the floor, so they are both within range of a controller.
Normally when I play upstairs it's me by myself, so I just leave a single controller up there and use the other 3 controllers downstairs when I have company, so they stay synced to their respective consoles all the time. But if I happen to need more than 1 upstairs or all 4 downstairs, and pull one from the other pool, I wind up turning on the other console when that controller is turned on.
Question is, is there a way to un-sync a controller before turning it on? I know simply removing the batteries does not do it, but is there any kind of button press while powering up that will remove the sync so I don't turn on the upstairs/downstairs console inadvertently? It's not a huge deal as I have them both set to auto off, but still, 6 hours of inactivity is 6 hours closer to my next RROD so I don't like leaving them on.
Any options?

If you have the recharge cable that is one option. The other option is to hit the sync button on the controller and the new 360 you want to sync too. I can't think of any other options other then move the 360s further away from each other without accidently turning the one the controller is currently sync too. Unless you just leave them both on 24/7 like me and sync or buy 4 controllers total for each console.

Leifashley27 09-13-09, 09:23 PM Wouldn't having two sets of controllers synced to the right xbox fix this problem?
I have two white controllers for my pro in my living room and an elite upstairs in the theater room. I have yet to turn on the other console with a controller.
My issue is downloads/game saves between the two consoles.
This questions comes up and time and time again and I think the consenus has been, for wireless,
Either unplug a the 360 your moving away from, or keep them unplugged and only plug them in as you use.
Or finaly if you don't.
Turn on the Automatic 6 hour shut off for the xbox and let it turns its self off after 6 hours.......

OK, I rephrased my search and found this topic covered one other time at the first of the year. My bad......
Still, it would be nice to have a way to hold down a button while powering up that would remove the sync without sending the power up signal at all. It's a minor PITA to have to run up/down stairs to turn off the console that powered up by mistake.
Auto off is enabled on both anyway....I still don't want it running when I'm not sitting in front of it. I think I have a play and charge cable somewhere....I use rechargeable AA's....will connecting the cable foul the batteries?
cueCrew 09-14-09, 07:45 AM Look for a sale on controllers and batteries so you can have a dedicated set for each. For content, keep your GT on a memory card and take advantage of the " download again" option to put what you need on both hard drives. As long as you GT is signed on you'll have access.
Mike LS 09-14-09, 09:28 AM Eh...I'll find a way to make it work...just got to get in the habit. I hate to have 8 controllers floating around the house when I'll never use more than 4 at once....seems like a waste of $$ and space.
GT and content are no big deal. I have my (and several friends) GT's on all 3 of my hard drives, so I'm set regardless of which drive I'm playing from.....just have to be sure auto sign in is always turned off so I don't accidentally get myself banned by trying to log in on the same GT simultaneously.......
sirjonsnow 09-14-09, 09:50 AM Play and charge kit - just connect each controller for one second and you're synced to that console.

Will this work with guitar controllers?
Mike LS 09-14-09, 11:42 AM No. Guitars do not have the charge port on them.
