Anybody heard anything about this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risen_(video_game)

I'm at work, so I can't see any screenshots or anything, but it looks like its something of an answer to PS3's Demon's Souls. Which I loved. Competition is a beautiful thing. I'll probably wait for a review or 2 but as long as they're decent this is going to be a definite purchase for me.

Your link doesn't work.
The article about the game hardly has nay information, here it is

Risen is a single-player fantasy-themed action role-playing game[2] under development by the German company Piranha Bytes, and published by Deep Silver, due to be released on October 2, 2009.[1] Piranha Bytes is only developing the Windows version, while the development of the Xbox 360 version is outsourced to an experienced console team under the close control of the Essen-based company.[3]

[edit] Plot
Faranga is a fictitious volcanic island which is located 21°19' North and 157°50' West, thus having a tropical climate. However, on the Official Risen Blog Faranga is described as a mediterranean island, with different sub-climates and vegetation zones. The island is inhabited by humans, as well as many fantastic creatures.

Recently, ancient temple ruins have risen from the ground, providing access to a network of interconnected underground areas such as catacombes and dungeons. As a result, the humans have put in place an Inquisition, forbidding anyone from exiting their city or the island.[4]

The game starts when the protagonist is shipwrecked onto Faranga, after a storm.

[edit] Gameplay
Leaked gameplay videos on YouTube show that the player can progress through weapons, classes, and fighting style. Piranha Bytes have commented on the leak, stating that the demo was in Alpha/Beta test at the time, and that it barely resembles the game's intended end state.[5]

The game will feature a day/night cycle and varying weather conditions.

The island is divided into several parts which get unlocked as the player progresses. The development team also announced that it was working on secret areas and easter eggs.[6]

[edit] Marketing and promotion
Deep Silver released several trailers for the game online; one of which features portions of the Nightwish song "The Poet and the Pendulum".[7]

A demo entitled The Risen Experience can be played online on the official Risen website. The development team has announced that it is also working on a more expansive gameplay demo.

[edit] Classification
On July 20, 2009, Risen was Refused Classification[8] in Australia by the OFLC. According to the game's Australian distributor, Madman Interactive, the OFLC cited[9] "sexual activity and drug use related to incentives or rewards" as the reason for the refusal.

What is it with so many shooting games and wanting to be underground in catacombs?

I was so happy with this generations big games have wide opens skies alot of the time.

This game is getting some great user reviews. I am thinking of importing it form Europe because the North American release has been delayed until 2010.

I have never imported a game for my Xbox...will there be any problems?

I'm pretty sure Xbox 360s are region coded. Be careful.

i think dragon age will be the better game, but risen will be nice in the spring when theres usually a decent drought for good games coming out, i'm guessing thats exactly why the release date changed in the US... the game is obviously finished and packaged up for sale.... strategically it just makes more sense.

I was ready for this game but if I had got it when planned I would have only had a week or so to play it before Borderlands then Forza and a bunch of other games I want. Two Worlds is a probably a poor substitute but has enough in it to get me to next week.

MangaCarta2 looks interesting from a JRPG perspective, but I think I am going to hold off on that one too.

I think it was because the console versions were so bad when they were released in Europe that they're taking time to optimize it.

Maybe just the NA release was delayed on xbox and not PC? Probably just to optimize and compress the crap out of all textures in the game. I have it on PC, just installed it today, and the thing looks BEAUTIFUL. WAYYY too much for a 360 to handle. Want me to post screens?

Havent played much so I dont have a true opinion on the game, but it is decently fun so far. Combat takes some getting used to though.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this one as well. Way too few Western RPGs on the consoles, much less sandbox-style Western RPGs. And for what it's worth, I loved Two Worlds! Yeah, it wasn't nearly as polished as the big players (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, etc.), and I didn't play it until the developer patched most of the most egregious bugs, but I really, really enjoyed that game. Here's hoping that Risen is worth the wait...

I purchased this for the PC since it was delayed her in NA for the Xbox. The game is a lot of fun. I would suggest downloading the PC demo if you have a rig that can handle it. I play it with my 360 controller using Pinncale game profiler, since I am not a K&M guy.

I am taking a break from Fallout and was needing a fix, and this game cured it.

Doesnt the XBox 360 controller work automatically and not need 3rd party software? Maybe only with Vista and/or Windows 7 though, not XP. hmm, Ill let you guys know today as I am running Win 7.

That is what I thought as well, but it doesn't. I have Vista and have to use Pinnacle.

Well, the premise sounds pretty good. This is the type of game I am interested in. I hope that it lives up to the hype.

ok so I just plugged my Xbox 360 controller in and WIndows 7 recognizes it and installs everything perfectly fine for the controller. and I can do the test and move and press buttons on the screen. HOWEVER, I can not figure out how to make it work with this game, so I am thinking that unless the game has joystick/controller support built in, it will probably need a 4rd party program to map the buttons like ctiq21 uses.

It worked automatically for Crysis Warhead, no problems, nothing needed (other then the Xbox Wireless dongle for the PC). You can get it to work on almost any other game that doesn't support it by default with a software download.

GFW titles, especially those that support windows live and achivements are EXCELLENT with the controller, right out of the box.

those having issues should try downloading GFW live.
