View Full Version : My Panasonic 42S1 is buzzing is yours?
Have had a 42 S1 for about 2 weeks and noticed a buzzing from about 4 feet away and can sometimes hear it on quiet parts of a movie if the screen is bright from 7-8 feet (i have sensitive hearing). The buzzing seems to get louder as the screen gets brighter and it doesn't buzz when the screen is black (which as i read seems to be normal on plasmas that buzz). So is this somewhat normal? Should i try a replacement (i bought it from Sears but threw the box away last trash day). Just wandering if most plasmas buzz I would hate to get rid of it i have no stuck pixels, and with my luck i would get a worse replacement. Thanks for all the input guys.
wmuflyboy 12-18-09, 12:27 PM mine is buzzing too. very concerned. people are telling me different things. help???
Pioneer and Samsung buzz too if not more. They each have "buzz poll" threads here. My 54S1 buzz too on bright scenes. Bothers me a bit with quiet scenes but I am trying to live with it because I got my set at really good price and it's out of stock where I bought it. Judging from many reports, I think there's a decent chance you will have the same problem with a new set. It's a tough call but if I were you, I would still try exchanging it if they have it in stock.
I think this is normal as well. I have a 54S1 that has some buzzing, but you can only really hear it if you're listening for it with the volume way down or during quiet passages. I almost never hear it during regular use. My old TV (a Zenith HD-capable CRT) buzzed as well (a bit louder), so this doesn't concern me that much.
wmuflyboy 12-18-09, 11:51 PM i just exchanged my p42s1 for a different and same result. seems to be just how the panasonic plasmas are. ive read throughout these forums that this was kind of normal but i knew if i didnt at least exchange it, i would be worrying about forever. now i can rest a little easier...
scubasteve44 12-19-09, 12:40 AM Televisions buzz. Some are louder than others. Some people complain, some don't. Some notice, some don't.
wmuflyboy 12-19-09, 08:37 AM yep, thats pretty much how it goes

Come now, that's not true! Clearly we need to start a "Panasonic Buzz" thread to discuss this in depth!
(please note the humor in my post, not meant to be taken seriously.)
;)
Fact: all plasmas buzz. Usually, however, it is slight and not very noticeable at normal viewing distances (a buzz only heard in the back of the plasma is definitely normal). Some plasmas may have louder buzzing (and IMO should be exchanged). Samsung and Pioneer do seem to have more complaints about loud buzzing, but it is still the minority of even those brands. IMO, if you only really hear it at 4', I'd just ignore it.
wmuflyboy 12-19-09, 11:35 AM and i did exchange it. it seems to be a little better now that ive focused on it. but my dads 60in signature elite is extremely quiet. i guess i was spoiled....
and Aeonus - i think myself and the OP were just concerned with our purchase. we were just trying to get a little help. to some people who arent very TV saavy, the buzzing could be thought of as something that is wrong. why post such a sarcastic comment. im an idiot when it comes to this stuff. isnt that what these forums are for??

You're misunderstanding me, but that's understandable given how new you are to these forums.
It was nothing personal against you or anyone in this thread. It was a satirical joke related to the "Samsung Buzz" thread which has people whipped into a frenzy, where some people are convinced every Samsung plasma that is buzzing is broken, even with the smallest amount of buzz (notice I said "some").
As to the actual buzzing of the sets, if it bothers you, return it. I know if my Samsung buzzed I would have returned it in a heartbeat or use up my extended warranty. I don't play the warranty games with companies unless I have to.
pannyplas 12-19-09, 11:43 AM I have a 42S1 and don't really hear any buzzing unless I go behind the tv.
With my 42C1 though, I can hear some buzzing, like you said especially during bright scenes.
modiGTI 12-19-09, 01:14 PM Are you hearing the buzz during normal use?
I've been using the break-in dvd the last few days and during the white slides is the only time I really notice the buzz from 6.5 FT. During normal use, BR movies, I don't hear anything.
thebigdaddye 12-19-09, 01:25 PM i have had my 42s1 since march and unless i am about a foot away from the screen i hear no buzzing. maybe i just got lucky with mine.
wmuflyboy 12-19-09, 11:09 PM i actually havent used it normally yet. right out of the box i started the break-in slides. on the bright colors i, too, can hear the buzzing. i think its all good tho. im not worried since i exchanged the tv once and my new did the same thing. just must be the way it goes....
