Okay thought my daughter threw something at the plasma in our bedroom last night so I broke out the flashlight and started looking over the panel. Phew didn't see anything on the surface but I did notice beneath the glass there was like little marks maybe 1/8 of an inch long kinda of like a baby Nike swoosh that were in random places on the plasma screen itself (10 or so). Not cracks or anything and with the panel on you certainly cannot see them. If you shine the flashlight at the right angle you can tell its behind the glass not on it and it does not look like its on the back of the glass but the plasma panel itself (what ever that layer is called). They are not uniform or follow a pattern that I can tell. Really random. Looks like the left side of the panel has more of them then the right.
I was wondering if that was normal? It's a Panasonic 42X1. Should have known better then to look that close at this thing. Now I will be obsessing over it. :o Maybe it didn't get wiped down before the front glass was assembled over it?!?
I have the samsung 42b450 and mine had a palm print on the inside panel, I had repair tech come and open panel and clean it. Even though they are different brands I would suggest calling panasonic and telling them because from what I was told prints contain oil and it could damage the panel.

If it bothers you from your normal viewing distance, you can have Panasonic send a tech out to take the cabinet apart and clean it out.

Thanks for the replies. I stopped into a Howards store and noticed all the models of Panasonic plasmas had them. You have to have the screen off and be but a few inches from the screen but if enough ambient lighting is on you can see them through the first layer of glass. Very random and some had more of them then others. Does look like it should or could be wiped off. Maybe like the other poster said it might be debris that got in behind the glass but to me it almost looks like a quick swipe of a light colored grease pencil. They are different in lengh and intensity. Good to know that it's not only my set.
Due to the randomness and one of mine is quite visible without a flashlight I am going to give Panasonic a call and see if there is anything that can be done. Maybe they can remove the outer glass and wipe the panel down like others have suggested.
I was able to get one on camera.

I noticed two of these streaks on my display. I never thought I'd see a thread on it unless i made it though :o
I saw them while cleaning the glass with microfiber and a flashlight but they aren't easy to locate to me.

^ Yeah that's one reason I hate looking for imperfections. Once you find one that's all you zoom in on. (Nice to know I am not the only one!)
I called Panasonic today and waiting to hear from a local service center about coming out and seeing if there is anything they could do. I am fine with them removing the front bezel/glass and seeing if these marks wipe off. Seeing that they all seem to have them I don't think I would go as far as replacing the set if they don't come off. Other then the marks I have no dead or stuck pixels so that's a relief.
Could it be something with the Anti-Reflective coating they put on the screen?

It's actually on the panel behind the glass and it's way to random and not uniform for it to be something applied to correct reflection. We're only talking about maybe a dozen marks that are in no direct pattern. Some of the sets I looked at had a few spread out and some had 4 or 5 really close together and none elsewhere. Mine has about 7-10 of these marks but only 2 are noticable without a flashlight.
Call it OCD but if it can be cleaned off I would like to get it done. If it is quite normal and the marks are not removable then I guess that's how all these panels are. It would be nice to hear it from a Panasonic tech and I guess I live with it. I will report my findings.....
