Last night I noticed that there's some flashlighting in the lower corner of my Samsung LCD. I already ran through a calibration with an Eye-One and HCFR and arrived at some decent settings. To make the flashlighting less visible, I just lowered my BL from 4 to 3. My light output was originally around 36 or 37 ftl with a 100% white window. Since it's probably lower now, I also bumped up contrast from 98 to 100. Will these changes affect my overall calibration? I thought I read somewhere that the backlight shouldn't affect other settings.
I suppose the only way to know for sure is to take another round of measurements.
There will be a tiny change from raising the contrast, assuming you are not in danger of white crush. The backlight shouldn't change much on your Samsung, but some sets can show a slight shift.
So your changes probably caused shifts that would be measureable, but it's probably not enough to be visible.

Thanks for the info. I have a feeling the light output is going to be around 30 now (I'll measure later), which might be a little dim? Although, isn't that the THX recommended value?
Not sure what else I can do besides lower the backlight to get rid of the little flashlighting problem?

So you spent the time to cal with equipment, then altered settings by eye/guess...
Break out the probe and take measurements with the new settings. That'll tell you exactly how things've changed.

On my Sammy B650 I found that adjsuting the backlight affected the gamma curve a bit but no noticeable difference on other measurements (except light output of course, LOL). I found that a setting of 3 or 4 gave the best results though so if the B750 is the same then you should be OK.

I made some measurements, and changing the backlight between 3 and 4 didn't significantly affect the grayscale. However, at 3, my light output was a little shy of 30 ftl (even with contrast at 100). So, I'm back to my original settings. I'll just have to live with the tiny bit of flashlighting:cool:

You might be happier long term with the little less light output without the flashlighting. I know I would.
