An 802.11n wireless adapter for the XBox 360 has been submitted to the FCC for certification.

I wonder if this means that the a/g adapter will have a lower price, now?

About time they drop the price or include it for free. $99 for wireless USB adapter is just stupid.

Im still here fools.. Im a G!! Almost 9 year member of AVS. Just keeping a low profile, because its alot of Heat out there right now. Gotta start talking with my hands over my mouth like in Casino & GoodFellas lol.

I paid $99 for the damn WiFi adapter and dont even use it now. When I originally bought it, my cable modem was in study area outside of my living room. Once I moved things around my apt I had the cable modem near the TV (and 360). Since WiFi introduces lag.. I just went straight CAT5 from the modem to the WiFi router to the 360. Same with my PS3.. straight CAT5 into the router.

I was gonna sell it, but still use my WiFi adapter whenever I go over a friends house. Its amazing how many of my friends have no desire to ever put their 360 online. They simply buy the newest version Madden and NBA Live and play that all year. So whenever I come over, I usually plug in my adapter and update their 360. I just did that for a friend who let me borrow his 360 while I sent mine in for RROD fix earlier this month. He never had the NXE installed on his Xbox.

A few of my friends dont even have internet service at home.. lol

Im the techno nerd out my group. My friends that do pay for broadband internet all have the slowest & cheapest internet available.. Im talking the $15.99 784kbps DSL service from Verizon.

The new trend has alot of people are dropping their Verizon home service all together, because having a cell phone, they no longer need a house phone. Therfore, unless the cable company offers some type of supercheap internet combo deal with their CableTV service. They arent gonna pay $40-50 a month for Cable high speed internet.. just to check Facebook, Myspace, and email. Especially when most cell phones already have that capability.

I gotta tell you, owning an iPhone I find less and less use for my home computer everyday. I can check FB, Myspace, all email, Youtube, chat on forums, manage my Fantasy League football team and even do online banking and transfers with my phone. I still have a full desktop PC at work that I can use for any documents.. but when I get home I rarely fire up the personal laptop anymore. My internet connection gets used mainly for gaming online.

Speaking of which.. thats another use I've found for my 360 WiFi adapter. 1) Tether my laptop to an internet connection using my cell phone. 2) Enable Internet Connection Sharing in Windows. 3) Create an ad-hoc WiFi network on the laptop, and join my 360 to that.

Guess what that equals = Xbox Live MP gaming anywhere there is a 3G cell phone signal.. :0)

Great for vacations and hotels..

My friend used to do that when he was stationed at the base down in SoCal. We played a bit of xbox with it but it was pretty laggy. Some games didn't even let us play together it was so bad. In other games it wasn't as bad. I might try it out when I upgrade to a smartphone in the next month or two. :)

That wireless adapter for the 360 really needs to come down in price but people still buy it so I guess thats why Microsoft never has. Pretty lame.

If you want an N connection, why not use the Linksys wireless N gaming adapter? Had mine for about a year now and its never given me problems.

I used the wifi adapter until I got ATT U-Verse..... The ethernet port on the back of the ATT cable box is live..... gotta love that. No cables running all over the house. Direct link to the Xbox
U-Verse also rocks compared to Comcrap

As surprising as it sounds I know exactly what he means. Alot of cats I know aren't online with the 360. Dudes do exactly like he says. Play stock rosters, non-patched games till the next one drops. No lie. People I know are just now realizing that buying a HDTV is just half the battle.

Atleast half of the friends I know with 360's.. (Mostly college buddies who have literally bought the new version of "X" football and basketball title every year) do not have their 360 online, and have never signed up for any type of gamertag. Either Silver or Gold.

You have to remember.. this is the first generation for many people where they can play online. Most people owned a PS2 last generation, but that said the PS2 still didnt have much of online community, infact I know noone that played their PS2 online. You also have to remember Broadband internet is just at the point where atleast half of the households in America have high speed internet. Before that it was probably AOL or dial up service for most Americans during the last generation of videogaming.

As people catch on though, and play online at a friends house or have a friend put their 360 online.. they will understand how much more capable the system is by doing so. And it will continue to spread.

I have a desktop PC, an iPod Touch, and a netbook. I don't really like the iPod Touch for most things but the netbook fills the gap. The desktop is used probably 15% of the time. Funny thing is I was going to upgrade this year, drop like $2000 on the type of PC they talk about in the HTPC gaming forum. Not anymore.

Unless you play games, there's really no use for desktops anymore. My next computer will likely be a regular laptop.

I thought I read where the wireles N adpater will be $200?

I only paid around $45 for my 360 wireless G/A adapter in 2007.

Anyway, even with the wireless G adapter has no problem streaming HD for me. I have no problem since I get around 20mbs speeds with the 360 wireless adpater.

And for playing a game, the experience is identical to having a wired connection to my gigabit network which uses FIOS for internet access.

I have the wireless adapter and it works great for games, get full bars. But when I watch a movie via netflix I only get 1 or 2 bars. But then about halfway through the movie, it pops up to full bars for about 10 minutes, then reverts back.

Would the new wireless adapter fix this problem? Any idea what would be causing this?

$200 for the wireless n adapter? That's gotta be crazy.

For around $100 you can get a wirless n bridge that supports 5 ghz and dual band. Plus you're able to connect up to 4 devices online at the same time.

Yes. A wireless Bridge is the best solution.

I wonder if there will be some noticable improvement in online capabilities with this new adapter. This would have to be $99 or less for me to purchase it.

in regards to "online (gaming) capabilities", the shortcomings in a wireless G connection are still shortcomings in wireless N, it's less about the available bandwidth, and more about the latency, crowding, and lost packet information that is the issue

I already have zero problems with the wireless G adapter. The experience is identical to having the 360 connected to my wired gigabit network. Or you can buy a wireless bridge to work with wireless N. It's cheaper than $100.
Either way, over the wireless Network, I already have zero problems. Just like when I use a wired network with the 360.

Woot has a sale today of the Linksys Wireless N Gaming Adapter as mentioned in the Deals thread there. It's refurb but worth a try for an N adapter.

It uses WPA and WEP. It doesn't support the newer and more advanced ones.

The current one is WPA2 compliant now. There was a recent update. If you connect to XBL with the current wireless adapter it will download an update to enable WPA2.

After this update I changed all my APs and routers to WPA2 only instead of WPA2 and WPA.

It's now available in stores and the older one is being phased out from what I can see. Unfortunately, my wireless adapter seems to have died right after I got it working with WPA2 after the update. Anyone got the new adapter yet? It will go nicely with the MW2 console or an Elite from the look of the coloring. It's too bad they didn't release it in classic white.

Has anyone picked up the new wireless N adapter? Any thoughts?

My old MN-740 adapter just died (good timing since my Elite is on the way back from being repaired) so I'll need a new adapter or perhaps make a router an access point.

just like it's too bad they didn't release the chatpad in black, and that they don't sell the headset separately in black, other than finding one on ebay...

Part of me is glad that it is black because I have an Elite and a MW2 edition console. The other part of me says "Can anybody really see what color the adapter is when it's hooked up?" I would rather have all black controllers and headsets if I had the option.

I tried one a few weeks back after I got my new D-Link 655. Unfortunately, I can't give an accurate review as the new adapter runs N only at 5Ghz and my 655 runs N only at 2.4Ghz. The adapter saw the signal at 2.4 and kept switching to G thinking the router was a G router, so I saw no improvement. I ended up taking it back a couple of hours later.
