The previous owners of my home had the same cable service that I’m subscribing to. The wires are already setup…EVERYTHING is ready to go...even the demarc box is setup correctly and directly from the pole.

When the cable guy comes for “hook up”…is he actually going to do anything?

The reason I ask is because they are going to charge me a fee for it, but if the guy isn’t really going to do anything, I’d like to bargain with them to get the fee removed.

Did you plug a TV in and do a scan?
If so did any channels appear?

The tech that comes out may have to adjust some connections on the pole or the ground box, and at the very least should check the signal levels at the house to ensure that everything is within spec. He'll also set up your cable box, assuming your package includes one.

In my experience, it's very rare to not do a truck roll on a "new" install. You could try telling them that Dish is doing free installs in your area to see if they'll waive the fee, but YMMV. But generally, it is best practice to have a tech on hand when service is activated, to make sure everything is working properly.
