After years of promise, Internet-enabled televisions are finally ready for primetime. According to iSuppli, sales of IETV’s are set to jump six-fold by the year 2013.

The research firm predicts that 87.6 million units will be sold by 2013, up from 14.7 million in 2009. IETV is defined by iSuppli as a set that has the capability to access the Internet through a wired link or wirelessly. It is mainly meant to support thin-client applications such as Yahoo or connected TV widgets of the Adobe flash program.

According to Randy Lawson, a senior analyst for DTV, IETV is a key feature for the price-driven market of flat-panel televisions.

“Brands are looking for ways to differentiate their TV lines from competition,” Lawson said.

iSuppli expects IETV will emerge as one of the key features buyers will demand in the coming years.
