Hi, I was wondering which of the following would best upscale a 480p video signal (from a wii) to 1080p: The pioneer KRP-500M tv itself, a mid-range AVR (a $400 one pioneer or something like that), or a dedicated video upscaler such as the DVDO Edge video upscaler.

Thanks in advance for the reply!

The EDGE uses basically the same anchor chipset that the OPPO uses. The OPPO is considered one of the top BD players upscaling a 480 signal to 1080p. That's why DVD's look so good on an OPPO. It does a better job with scaling a 480 source than does your Pioneer.

You should also try posting in the Video Processor forum if you haven't already. Personally, I'm a fan of dedicated VPs.

I think the DVDO will do a better job de-interlacing than the Kuro as well, so that would be an added benefit of going with the Edge. The de-interlacing on my 500M is nothing special. Better than the Pannys for sure, but my Samsung B860 beat the Pioneer in this one area.
