First of all, may I take this opportunity to say "Hello" . I have just arrived in USA from UK. This forum was recommended to me by a contact in the UK-based "avforums.com". I hope you guys will bare with me while I learn all about your digital transmission technologies which seems very different to the digital cut-over that is taking place in the UK.

So here is my question:
Last week, just a few days after arriving in USA, I purchased a Samsung 26" (Series 360) LCD. I connected it directly to the Comcast socket in my apartment (Rahway, Union County, NJ) and got 100's of channels without a set-top box. The Weather Channel appeared on channel 96.

A few days later, channel 96 vanished! I assume that this is due to your switching-off of analogue signals. I discoverd that by performing a new auto-scan (Using "HRC" instead of "STD") it reappears on channel "72-10". However, I dont get nearly as many channels as my initial auto-scan using "STD". For example, I lost AMC.

Is there any way that I can get ALL available channels on my Samsung without having to keep performing autoscans and changing between "STD" and "HRC" ?

Welcome to the forum!!

You are at the mercy of the cable-co, without renting a STB from them you will only pick up the Digital (QAM) channels that are in the clear with your TV.

As you have experienced they (cable-co) can and will on occasion move those (in the clear) channels around and even scramble some of them.

That being said you will need to do a rescan again and again.
Or rent the STB from them.
