View Full Version : Racing chair/6spd shifter and clutch question
epicbloodline 09-17-09, 10:00 AM The ps3 has the Logitic g25 racing wheel with shifter and on October 1st the g27 will hit stores, is there a xbox360 version of any knid that someone may know of?? there's a Playseat/logitic g27 with shifter holder combo coming out soon and I'll love to have that type of setup for the need for speed Shift and for Forza 3 when it releases....
NoThru22 09-17-09, 10:19 AM The only racing setup on the 360 with a shifter is the Fanatac Porsche wheel for $479. http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_usa/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=53&osCsid=2bad03f2a96b8d9b2c78c5bfb6e83e37
Also, the game has to support the shifter for it to work.

I kind of like the setup with the 3monitors mount, but the wheel and pedals look cheap, it don't look solid like the logitic g25/7..there's also a company in Canada that has one too (I forgot the name..but it starts with a V?) anyway...they'll sell you the chair 3 With the wheel and shifter setup a 3 32inch sharp LCD 3 360's and 3 Copys of forza 3 and a 5.1 mirage surround package PLUS a wind tunnel machine...all for 12,000 dollars
mcjasonb 09-17-09, 02:27 PM i have one of the Fanatec wheels and i like it. the pedals are fine. you can always upgrade to the clubsport pedals if you like, but i don't see the need. as for the racing rig, i have the Fanatec Rennsport wheelstand. it also works quite nicely.
the wheel in the link above is the only wheel i know of that will work with both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
epicbloodline 09-17-09, 02:48 PM That's good to know,I thought about buying the Shift for the ps3 and forza 3 for the 360 for sake of playing a racer on the PS,but I didn't wanna buy 2different types of wheels to do so...is that the only choice for the 360....and Why doesn't logitic make anything worth buying for te 360... Racing wise??

it's not logitech, it's microsoft. they want a monopoly on everything. as far as i know the Fanatec is the only single wheel that is compatible for both consoles and the pc.
epicbloodline 09-17-09, 03:14 PM Yup it figures
it's not logitech, it's microsoft. they want a monopoly on everything. as far as i know the Fanatec is the only single wheel that is compatible for both consoles and the pc.
Mad Cat makes a 360 wheel also (http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=39186&vpn=MCB047200%2F02%2F1&manufacture=Madcatz) it was on a time limited sale for $30cdn but seem to be sold out or sale is over, but from what I heard its no where as good as the MS 360 Wheel. Also its wired. I have a Fanatec Porsche Turbo S on order and its due this month that will support PC/PS3/360. Currently I use a Playseats Evo/G25 for my PC racing and a tall coffee table with the 360 wheel for Forza2.
BTW IMHO NFS: shift is not that great on the PC. Maybe fine for a console, but if you are use to PC sim racing, its lacking. The graphics look great, but there are issues with how the cars feel when compared to a good PC sim, just IMHO.

agreed, shift is not a pure sim, and anyone looking for a true sim should not be looking at shift.
that being said, the target audience for shift, especially on console, is much MUCH larger than the target audience would be for a true sim.

Yup it figures
probably has something to do with microsoft's attempted buy out of logitech last year.
epicbloodline 09-17-09, 04:02 PM I always wanted to try a shifter, so how is the g/25 and do you think the new 27 will be better

As I stated earlier in the thread, the Microsoft and Porsche wheels are the only ones that support force feedback, so those are the only ones worth considering.

the G27 has a better shifter.

The Mad Cat has vibration fb, what ever that means. Not sure if its full FFB like the 360 and Fanatec wheel or just rumble.
the G27 has a better shifter.
The G27 looses the sequential shift mode. Its suppose to be more precise with the 6 speed. The G25 6 speed shifter is sloppy.
With my G25 I use the paddle shifters if manaul is used and the seq shifter as the e-brake.

WalksInDarkness 09-20-09, 01:58 PM Does any company sell some sort of basic table? I want something that I can clamp the M$ Wheel to, and somehow secure the stupid footpedal to also. The damn footpedal slides all over my carpet, maybe I can modify it with leftover carpet spikes from some of my speakers/subs.

Here is almost my final set up. Its set up now for PC sim racing, but when I get my Fanatec Porsche Turbo S wheel it will be set up for PC/360 (maybe PS3 ???). Playseats Evo, G25 wheel, G13 game pad, Logi 540 spealers, and Buttkicker Gamer. PC is an old E8400@4.28 with SLI 8800GTX's in a Cosmos S case. Monitor is an ASUS 23.6" 1920x1080. Framing is all ABS tubing.

Actually I don't rem off hand but it was not hard. This use to be my old gaming system from a way back. I since move on to i7-920@4.0 non turbo for my gaming rig. I never even look at what I set in the BIOS since it was done a while back. I Just moved the mobo/cpu/mem from my gaming rig to my test bench for a while (now also replaced with i7-920@3.8 non turbo), now it sits inside my racing sim rig.
It also has a TRUE with a Panaflo 3000rpm 120x38mm fan for CPU cooling. That helps a lot. Temps idle at ~35c and during normal gaming it runs at ~45c. The mobo is an eVGA 780i SLI something. 4GB OCZ mem.
WalksInDarkness 09-21-09, 12:55 PM Anybody out there using a "WheelStandPro"?
www.wheelstandpro.com
It is a similar product to the Fanatec unit, but this is substantially cheaper if you are running the M$ Wheel. OTOH, this looks like a equally cheaper construction. It seems like it might do the trick, but I don't mind spending the extra $$$ for the Fanatec unit if it is superior
UPDATE: I went and bought the Fanatec Rennsport unit. The unit looks like a much higher qaulity product, and it is handsome enough to be seen when not in use. But it is backordered until late October, meh...

1 xbox on the center monitor is master
2 xbox on the sides are slaves
3 xbox together are connected to your switch or router
master monitor connects to live, profile, main forza screen
multiple monitors works only in "system link" mode.

I don't think there is prebuilt commercial tri monitor stand that can support 3x32 LCD TV's (assuming TV since I do not know of a 32" monitor that is affordable). Rem that a TV is norm heavier then a monitor. Unless you are willing to make your own out of alum tubing like the guys (Darin's rig) at Insidesimracing that use it for their sim rigs. If not then you can always use desk(s). You might be able to get one that supports 3x27" monitors. Just try googling or e-bay it see what shows up. I see you posted the same question at the Insidesimracing forum (? )... :D
here is site but the screen size is limited. Rem that 3x32 or 3x27 monitors reachces out to side a fair bit. You can aways try the 6x unit and see if that will support more weight. Or even use three seperate stands attached to a desk or two 2x stands.
http://www.ergoindemand.com/monitor-arms-multiple-monitors.htm
The site also list individual LCD/Plasma stands on wheels. Three of those would def work since they can norm hold 50" TVs (http://www.ergoindemand.com/plasma-cart.htm)
They have tons of options, you just have to get creative and have a really fat wallet...:D.
ADD: BTW a 27" monitor prob has a rez of 1920x1200, not sure how the 360's would handle that since it do 1080/720 so there might be scaling issues. Also for the amount that you will be spending on the stands and monitors, maybe it would be more econ to go projector. If you insist on three screens and all you are planning is 3x360, then three 720p projectors would work great :D

yes they are simboots. Two pairs. One with grip soles for the Club Sport pedals later and the other set with slippery bottoms for the G25 pedals since it has pads. Still pref bare foot but long races are a pain literally on the feet bottoms. I use to use Oakley cart racing shoes but I only use them now in my car.
XiaNaphryz 09-29-09, 12:58 AM New features in Fanatec 911 Turbo S wheel announced (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hzx6iUnB4k), see vid link for more explanation.
Thomas posted a video explaining a few new little features that were added as a result of the delay as well as fully demonstrating how the clutch works within the Forza 3 Demo.
He actually shows a clutch launch first. He compares it to a standard non-clutch dump. HUGE difference in speed and control and you can actually hear the difference as the engine bogs down as the clutch is feathered -- Mastering the Clutch Launch looks like it'll be a MUST for the Drag guys. He also compares a run with shifting without clutch and shifting with clutch to demonstrate the speed and smoothness differences.
He also demonstrates the anti-lock brake pedal vibration -- fully adjustable from the wheel itself.
And he demonstrates "drift mode", which is basically a super-boosted power steering mode that PC drifters have requested. This can also be turned on 'on the fly' from the wheel itself.
1. USB connection cable
On PC/ PS3 you now have the option to choose between a wired or a wireless connection. This feature is standard on all versions of the wheel.
(If you now consider to cancel the order of your wireless dongle you are feree to do so but please note that you need to cancel the complete order and reorder again due to technical reasons.)
2. DriftMode
We now have the driftmode implemented into firmware so you can use it also on the consoles without the driver
3. ABS vibration
In the firmware you can choose a percentage of brake force on which the vibration motors of the wheel and the CSP will be activated. This helps you to find the optimal brake force easily. Compatible to all games on all platforms!
Sounds like the latter 2 new features are done independent of game, so should work on all games on all platforms. :D
I believe the wheels should start getting shipped out to customers sometime in the next 2 weeks or so.
@ XiaNaphryz
Move from Forza3 area to here. More appropriate here. it was the response to option 1.
Yeah, I pre'd the Pure and dongle since I was not sure about Fanatec quality. I didn't want to lay down a lot of $$$ for the set with the Club Sport pedals and wait for ever to get them. Planning to use the G25 pedals. If the Pure is decent I will order the Club Sport pedals. Next on my list is a new shifter, looking seriously on getting the SST lightning but its a lot of $$ to get it to Canada.
Well guess what...another month and more waiting. Same old same old...
well here is an e-mail we prob all got that pre'd the Fanatec Turbo S wheel :(
Dear racing fan,
we are almost there. We have the MS apporval and the raw materials for the wheel is in place. Unfortunatly we could not start production before the national holiday in China but we will start production on Oct 10th.
We will bring in the very first orders by airfreight so all customers who ordered the wheel before June should have it before the end of October and all other open orders should be delivered before the end of November.
We missed our target to ship everything before the launch of FM3 but we used the time to improve the quality and we also added new features:
http://www.911wheel.de/?q=node/2356
I will make updates on the shipping status on my blog as frequent as possible as I am not a big fan of sending emails which end up in spam filters. So please check my blog if you like to get the latest news about the shipment:

Ive preordered the wheel and clubsport pedals too, and am now thinking about the rennsport cockpit. I'm having a hell of a time contacting Thomas to answer my questions. Is there a magic phone number or email address you could PM me so I could talk to a human at Fanatec?
Anyway, maybe you can answer some questions for me. What kind of monitors work best with the 3 monitor stand? It says Dell 24" monitors, but I've heard that they have since changed their connectors. Blood, can you give me any insite?
Thanks guys. I'm new here but I've done a search and dont see this stuff anywhere else. Thanks!

As mentioned in that email posted earlier, Thomas mentions posting in his blog as his email box gets flooded.
As for the cockpit, try looking through this thread (http://www.gtforums.co.uk/gtforumsc1/showthread.php?tid=162). The guy posts his experience in putting it together over the span of a month or two, he also adds some mods to it, such as extra dashboard controls (I'm assuming those buttons only work for PC sims) and a BKA.
spinkick 09-29-09, 01:09 PM He really needs to hire a customer service person to handle all the email and questions. Thanks for the heads up ive signed up for the blog and waiting authorization to post.
I did check that thread you mentioned, thanks. Its where I got the idea that the dell monitors are not so compatible any longer. Hopefully I can get a good answer from him.
Vracer111 09-29-09, 08:29 PM Single for a long while and happy. Thanks for being diplomatic and saying setup and not "The Mess" :D

yes they are simboots. Two pairs. One with grip soles for the Club Sport pedals later and the other set with slippery bottoms for the G25 pedals since it has pads. Still pref bare foot but long races are a pain literally on the feet bottoms. I use to use Oakley cart racing shoes but I only use them now in my car.
I recently received the Club Sport Pedals [which were ordered and payed for in January BTW] and I really like them so far using a DFP wheel with the PC Sim GTR2. Feels just about like real pedals with driving/racing shoes on. One thing I want to do is put some skateboard grip tape on them to have a grippy surface for shoes. I do like the design of the pedals, though you can definately tell they were made in China (sharp edges workmanship tolerances). They are sturdy and very functional, just don't expect anything near German precision in fit and finish.
Hopefully the Turbo S wheel I ordered with the pedals is only one month out from arriving. Can't wait to give Race PRO a try with it...even though I don't much like GTR Evolution compared to GTR2. Really looking forward to getting Dirt 2 though.
About the SST shifter, it's really nice but you definately need to have a cockpit setup with it ergonomically positioned for it to feel right. I haven't been using mine much since I still need to build up a custom racing frame as it just feels wrong with the current desk setup.
mcjasonb 09-29-09, 09:54 PM hopefully i'll have my replacement Fanatec Turbo (PS3/PC) wheel tomorrow. it worked great for about a month or two then it started clicking and skipping when turning to the right, loosing it's centering at the same time because of it, and the right paddle shifter lost it's firmness and clickyness.
i'll give them a second chance, but if this one develops the same problems i don't know what i am going to do. from everything i have read and heard it really is a better feeling wheel than the G25 and G27.
spinkick 09-30-09, 11:04 AM Well, I went with the Rennsport cockpit. Got the 3 monitor stand as well. I figure with 72" of screen wrapped around me at around 3 feet or so viewing distance, it should be good enough and not make me have to turn my neck to see everything. I guess we will see how things go. They answered all my questions eventually. Their customer service is getting pounded on right now with all the questions about their turbo S wheel coming out. I'll post pics as things show up

your not the only one i have heard have issues with fanatec quality. They seem shady to me. The price they ask for their wheels is atrocious. Logitech would get my money instantly if they supported the xbox too. I wish MS would just smarten up and let them do it already. I'd imagine there are quite a few G25 owners out there now that would love another system and games to use with their cool wheel, it might even cause a few to get a new xbox just to play Forza and other things. MS doesn't seem to think of it that way, rather then just concern themselves with loss of sales of their own mediocre wheel. I have no idea how many people have G25 wheels out there, or how many of them have xbox's already, but the just the extra sales of Forza alone would be more then the few MS wheels they sell for sure, yet alone new xbox sales.

aiming the projectors would be tricky, not to mention the room you would need for it. Of course it depends on how big you want the screens...but this would be so cool. There is someone that has done it, as I remember seeing the pictures here on avs.

OK I am still waiting on my Fanatec Turbo S wheel so I will hold off commenting on the wheel. Rem Fanatec is small when compared to Logitech. There has been issues with G25 also. But on the whole the G25's has been reasonably solid. IMO Its all lic'ing issues, I mean if Fanatec is getting a lic from MS then there got to be some reason that Logi and MS can not come to an agreement. Even the new G27 is not 360 compat. Maybe there are hardware issues that we know nothing about.

i hadn't heard any other issues until last night when i stumbled across a thread linking me to to some youtube video's. i was hoping my issue was a one in a million kind of thing, now it has me worried. hopefully the one i have on the way maybe has these issues resolved. i even popped the cover off just to see if i could see what was wrong inside and i couldn't see anything wrong. the build quality of everything inside seemed really good just by looking. nice huge ball bearings, very sturdy framing for all the gears or pulleys. the reason i say gears is because the belt drive system uses cogged belts and pulleys. my assumption is that one of the shafts where two pulleys meet is where the slipping is occurring.
like i said i am going to give these guys a second chance, but if it happens again i will be trying my hardest to just get my money back. i'll report back at a later date.
Who turned off my Sim ....D@m buttkicker gamer just died . Blew the fuse and the backup. The unit must be shorting out. Out of warranty .
I was going to order the new wireless one from GUITAMMER (Buttkicker) but they only ship UPS to Canada. Thats is bad because of the broker fees UPS charges that adds a lot to the price.

How do you like the buttkicker product?

It was great right up to where it fried itself:rolleyes:. Would not sim race without one:cool:. After you use it then the sim seems off without one. There is nothing that replaces that rumble in your butt as you scrub the corner strips.:D. Also acts a message chair...intermittent but still ... :p

How so? Most of their wheels are comparable in price to Logitech's high-end stuff. I believe the G27 is in the $300-$350 range, which is about where the 911 wheels are in price. Only if you get the high-end pedals will the price go up another $200. And don't forget Fanatec's been primarily in the PC sim market, where other niche companies put out equipment that's much more expensive. Fanatec's trying to fit in the gap between Logitech and the high-end stuff.
I can understand build quality being a concern for anyone putting in such a large investment, but I don't think it'll be too bad here. Fanatec's been around for a while and seems to have a decent reputation with the PC sim crowd, so we should wait and see how this new model turns out.
