View Full Version : Mounting Samsung LED - Doesn't work!

I have a Samsung 46 inch LED and the Ultra Slim mount for Samsung LED's

The studs in my SHEETROCK wall are every 16 inches, and the gap between the 2 mounts on the tv is around 13 inches. Basically we tried it 2 times and the gap between them did not match and it could not be done obviously.

So then we tried using the one for Gypsum board and wooden walls. It can be seen here at 5:31 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKsaaS1_d4E

We were going to use it, but then at Home Depot 2 of the people there told us that it would hold the TV if we did it right now, but in a week or two it would slowly start to come down and eventually maybe even fall down?

So what do I do now??? Now we have put a long piece of some type of concrete thing behind the tv (1 inch thick) and used that for the stud problem, and that is securely in the stud. Then we used the tv mount as you are supposed to.

It isn't THAT bad right now, it's around 1-2 inches space between the tv and the wall. In all it's around 4-5 inches if you count the very tip of the tv, but I don't think anyone does it like that. I would just like to know what others do who experience the same problem with the studs not fitting the 2 stud placements the tv has? What else can I maybe do? Does anyone have pics of how a normal one looks like?

Thanks!!!

Boy, that seems to be how Samsung recommends installing it, but I would never hang an expensive TV like that just into drywall. FYI, in the US most studs are spaced at 16" so that would be a common issue. Using something to span the studs is common practice, but you may be able to use something thinner as long as it is strong.

Can you use the expansion type drywall anchors? (Not toggle bolts or screw type). I use them to hang things on drywall and they are crazy strong! I cannot find a link to them. You drill a hole in the drywall and then use this tool that expands a drywall anchor behind the wall (flares it out). Then you use the bolt it came with for fastening. Its like the anchor on the right in this pic:

Do NOT use any of those for mounting your TV.

I used these togglers (http://www.wizitav.com/product_p/sasssmk1x1.htm) for a TV I recently installed that I could not line up to wood studs.

Just get a piece of plywood and attach that to the studs then the Tv to the plywood. The TV will cover the plywood so you will never see it. Paint it the color of the wall too for added measure.

I was going to suggest the same, Trey. I wouldn't trust anything else.

i would still be leary of installing anything only in drywall, let alone an expensive tv. if you're handy, you could cut a 4" stri pof the drywall behind the tv out, put a 2x4 screwed into the existing 16" wall studs, patch and then mount the tv on the 2x4. the patch job doesn't even have to be really perfect since it will be covered by the tv. this way, you're secured into wood and can sleep easy. i have tried all those anchors suggested, and although the last ones are the best of the bunch, i still would feel uneasy if my tv rested on them instead of solid wood.

^^^ What he said. Cut out a piece of the drywall. Cut it with a knife and it will go back on and patch up nicely.

Beef up your mounting options and then patch it back up.
