View Full Version : high pitch noise on verizon fios hd cable

hi,

i have an intermittent high pitched noise that comes from cable tv. it doesnt happen all the time but it will occasionally happen and it fairly noticeable. it can be very distracting and ruins the entire dialogue.

my equipment:

i have verizon fios hd cable service going to my hd dvr cable box. the cable box is connected via hdmi cable to my onkyo tx-sr606 receiver. i also have a set of 7 boston acoustics speakers and two svs pc-12nsd subs.

this problem only seems to happen from the cable box. i also have a PS3 connected via hdmi cable and it has never emitted this high pitch noise. so this seems to rule out any issues with my PS3, receiver and speakers/subs. i have noticed that these high pitched noises seems to occur more frequently during low-quality (non-hd) content on cable tv.

is there any way to eliminate or at least reduce this high pitch noise or is this just an issue with low-quality programming?

Swap HDMI ports to see if problem moves.
Swap HDMI cables...
Temporarily run HDMI directly to the TV from DVR and see if problem persists.
Unplug DVR from wall power for a few minutes to reset.
Call Verizon and ask for tech assistance.

You shouldn't have any noise with audio, no matter the content.

thanks for the response. i will certainly try your suggestions.

the problem is the high pitched noise only occurs briefly during a specific segment like a commercial or something. so by the time i realize the noise, it will be too late for me to troubleshoot it via switching hdmi ports or cables.

this noise is very sporadic and only occurs once or twice during four hour period of watching cable tv.

Do the swap anyway and just leave it until you hear or don't hear the noise again!
