From what I understand, I need to get a professional calibration done in order for my TN50X81 to except 1080i properly. I do have a few questions about this though:

1. Will the 1080i picture be dispalyed base on a 16:9 format or does it get manipulated to fit the 4:3 screen?
2. What happens to SD pictures? Do they go full screen 4:3?

The sd signals will be displayed in 4:3 ... the hd signal will go to a vertical squeeze down to 16:9 ...

Toshiba actually made an adaptor box for this way back in 2000 ... it would give you 16:9 but at a reduced resolution of roughly 810 lines rather than 1080.

If you are savy and brave enough ... you can create the 16:9 mode yourself ... but it takes a long time and you need strings to make sure the image is properly square ...

thx

are you saying the 16:9 would be squeezed to fill the whole screen then? or would there be black bars top and bottom?

in the 810 line method ... the missing lines are converted to black bars ...

in the squeeze method ... all the lines of detail are there ... but geometry work is extensive.
